Whenever Busty has been outside lately he chews his feet, sneezes and has watery eyes http://4d5.net/boardimages/sad.gif.
He only does this at this time of year because I remember him doing it last year about this time but it went away just before winter.
I have been looking on the internet all morning and think he might have hayfever. Does anyone elses dog have allergies or hayfever and how do they treat it?

Heuser has major allergies in the Spring and than a bit again in the Fall. I give him a couple of drops (less than 1/4 tspn.) of Children's Benedryl each morning and it helps a bunch! Check with your vet of course, but that is what his breeder has done with her dogs for years and never had any issues. Also, try wiping his eyes with wet, cold cotton balls after he comes back inside as well as dipping his feet/legs in cool water. It helps wash away the irritants and calm any swelling/itch he has. I'm sure your vet would also have recommendations but usually it is steroids and I try to stay away from that.

Thanks Lys,
I havent tried dipping his feet in water, I will get onto that immediately.
Im not sure about childrens Benedryl, I dont know if its the same here as the pharmacutical laws are very strict and some medication is altered before being allowed into the country. I will check with the vet.

Sheba has grass allergies of some sort. I've never had a test done on her, but as long as we have Gentocin Spray (topical), it stops the itching immediatley and she no longer chews. :) In the past, her nickname was "monkey feet" since they had not hair on the bottom of her feet and other spots on them.
I try to keep her out of the grass as much as possible, but you know dogs. ;-) I hope Busty feels better soon.

Hi terri
My cat Mr.Nixon has allergies.....The vet said it was hayfever much like we would suffer.
He gets runny eyes and sneeze's which incidently stings upon contact with human skin.
He was given eye drops which seem to help him. He gets this about twice a year.
