Do your Chihuahuas like to be groomed? any of these...coat brushed, ears and eyes cleaned, teeth brushed, nails trimmed, etc.

Roman and Elle have always loved to be brushed from head to toe. They both love their ears cleaned and want it so bad they get in each others way.

Roman used to put up a small fight with nail trimming, but he's better now. Elle still needs more practice with the nails. I have to do a a nail or two and then stop because she twists her arms to get away. They love the teeth brushing. Elle just started liking it this week when we switched from beef to poultry flavor. :)

Barb,

Well, we'll see about the toothbrushing...we're on our way to Petsmart in a few minutes to get the stuff! (Wish me luck!)

She's fine with baths, but I think that's mostly due to the full body massage and lavish attention she gets AFTER the bath, while she's drying off! (Of course, MOM gets to be the one who douses her with water - DAD gets dry off duty. Go Figure!)

Not a fan of the nail clipping - we accomplish that with LOTS of pauses and LOTS of freeze dried chicken treats! :)

Chili just loves his bath! Go figure on that one! He is so awsome when you give him a bath! I don't know if it's the bath or the warm blow drying he gets afterwards? He loves them both! Nail triming not a big fan? But he set still for me. Chili gets a bath every week due to I have small children and he also goes to work with me! Alot of people touch him. So i like the thought of him nice and clean!

My babies are fine with the bath, Hummie doesn't mind being towel dried, but Hercules turns into a bitting shark! He hates to be dried..doesn't make much sense to me, but he has a fit! They both hate getting their nails clipped, so I usually take them to the vet for that, they complain some, but it's nothing like the nervousness I get when they start squirming around when I try it. Last thing I want to do is hurt them because they are squirming.

Samson loves it all but the ear cleaning. He will try to hide if he knows that is coming.
One question: what type of puppy shampoo do you use? Samson gets dry skin and wants to chew on his feet sometimes.

That sounds more like allergies. Dry skin and chewing on their feet are very common symptoms. Check out what you are feeding him and try changing it to another main ingredient (it should be protein). Your vet will probably treat it with steroids and put him on a lamb and rice diet but I personally don't think that is necessary unless the allergies are severe. Sometimes switching to a higher quality food with good ingredients makes all the difference in the world.

All my chi's love ear cleaning more than anything and make a funny noise when we do it LOL
Brushing is much loved also, and the chi's line up when the brushes come out.
Nail trimming is hated, they all squirm and act like rascals when we cut their nails  It takes a combined effort of me and Stephan and many treats to cut their nails. I try to do it when the chi's are tired so they squirm less LOL .

My babies are fine with the bath, Hummie doesn't mind being towel dried, but Hercules turns into a bitting shark! He hates to be dried..doesn't make much sense to me, but he has a fit! Thats funny that Hercules doesnt like towel drying and turns into a bitting shark LOL
My chi's are the opposite and are not a fan of getting washed but adore being towel dried.

Oh, I forgot to answer the thread topic! Heuser and Tally wait in line every morning for their grooming time. Bently has started to figure it out that once you get off the table, you get a treat-but it means that he pretends that I must be getting him down and so tries to "help" me-I've had to start using the grooming noose and arm, LOL! Heuser does not like to be groomed but insists on a turn if T or B have to be done. He will literally sit next to the table and refuse to move even for treats until I put him on there and do something to him. If I don't need to, I just spray him a few times with coat conditioner, wipe his eyes with a wet cotton ball, and put him down! Then he runs to the kitchen for his treat! Silly Boy!

Everybody runs and hides when they see a towel go into the kitchen and the water running-they all HATE baths but are really good! Tally loves the blowdrying part and will just lay there and rub her face in the towel while you do the rest of her...Heuser is like an inch-worm and scoots away as I blow! You can't get near Bently with a blowdryer-he has NO clue what it is!

Lys~ LOL, that made me laugh cause my puppers do the same exact thing!
They run straight to their daddy and try to hide. It is so funny!!!!

Toby likes a bath, he thinks it's like a 'spa time'. Taco and Tazzy aren't to fond bath time. Nail trimming is bad...Toby puts up a fight, Tazzy is impossible, but Taco sits there like a good boy. He always has the nicely trimmed manicured nails, while Toby and Tazzy, have the ones that are all cut differently from squirming!

Mickey loves sitting in the bath tub with me.

He hates nail clippings or being brushed (the teeth come out when we do this)

Well I was going to say the same thing! But I thought you all would think I was crazy :) ? Chili also takes a bath with me sometimes.(Don't tell my hubby he would think I was crazy!) It's just easier that way and he likes it! I think he fills safer that way?

Huleo and Mia both dislike their baths but love it once it's through running all through the house! I'll have to try the bath with me maybe it would calm them some! They neither one mind the nail clipping though!

Elle used to hate getting toweled dried. She was like, ''Mommy! What are you doing to me?" LOL She's better now. I am really thinking of taking the Chi's in to get their nails done. Why can't I do my Chi's nails when I had done so many other dogs? haha If we don't get them done within the next few days, I'll have to have them done; I'm too afraid I'll hurt them.

Terry gives most of the baths, and I get drying off duty. LOL They run around the house like crazy. We call this spin dry. :D Afterwards, they sink into bath mode for a day and sleep.

Jennifer and Chassi, That would be nice to give a bath to a Chi like that. I would think they would feel safer. :D

Stella doesn't mind a bath. I try to brush her, but she is so very smooth-coat, she's almost like suede. I brush her teeth 3 times a week with those little red finger-cot type brushes that fit over your index finger, I use the beef flavored toothpaste. And I clean her ears with Foster and Smith ear pads.

Hi muse, Stella sounds like she has a nice soft coat. Elle is a short coat and feels that way too, but wow, can she shed at times. They get into my computer keyboard. lol

Thanks for mentioning the ear pads; I didn't know they had those and will have to get them for Elle. Her ears are fine, but they could use a little refreshing every now and then :D Barb
