Ok.. I was just wondering if this could be a possibility that Hummie could be like children and be ADHD?( attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) Poor little Hummie is just the sweetest thing, but he has some odd behaviors.. He runs around in little circles when you want to pic him up, he barks and paws at his food constantly before eating it, he just seems so hyper all the time. It's almost impossible to train him to do any tricks. He's so busy running in little circles. He's afraid to go thru the pet door going out, but he will go in the pet door to the kitchen. He's still not completely potty trained.. He'll sit and cry at Hercules when he wants something. All of it is quite endearing, but a bit strange. I love the little thing and I wouldn't trade him for anything, but like I said, he has some odd little behaviors. Any suggestions? Lys? Barb?

Ha Ha! Some seem more hyper than others. Hummie sounds adorable. haha Roman's always been hyper active. Elle is more of a sit and look pretty cute Chi, with exceptions at times. LOL I work with Ro all I can, and food seems to be the trick to get him to do anything. I have short daily sessions with them with bits of chicken or cheese gratings. They don't get a reward unless they sit quietly. Then I make them do this during their hyper times. I make them sit, speak, or whatever. I'm sure that helps some, but then they zoom right back up.

We play ball with them until they are so tired they can't run anymore. lol

haha Now that I think about this, when we feed them, Elle has a rutiene she does. She spins in circle like a bull with a cowboy on his back until we set the food down. She runs from sofa to sofa like a gymnast. She gulps her food to the point it's falling out of her mouth, while Roman is polite and pushes his food around with his nose picking out the right peices first.

Sometimes they get so excited about who knows what, they will chase their tails.

When Terry is gone, they both sleep and rarely wake up. When he comes home, they rev up and go wild. I tell him this is what I put up with all day. He knows I'm kidding.

In the car, Roman looks like he's ready to explode with excitement with the ride. We joke who has fed him after midnight or got him wet. (like in the movie, "Gremlins")

Well, there is no hope for Roman. j/k haha I have heard where some people have their dogs or cats on Prozac type meds, although I think Roman and Hummie are just Chi-active, and don't need meds. lol :)

Thanks Barb,
Too bad Roman doesn't live closer to Hummie! Maybe they could wear each other out. LOL

HI Renata, They really would hit it off! Then Aww! the long nap so we could visit! I think not! haha I doubt they would stop playing because they would have such a good time. Do they ever wear out? hahaha :)

Surprisingly enough Barb they finally do wear out. Yesterday it was beautiful outside temp was 78. I had them in the backyard with me for two hours while I planted bulbs and pulled weeds. They ran and ran all over the place, it was so funny! They were going top speed with their little ears back and low to the ground cutting sharp corners trying to cut each other off. They took off with several of my gladidola bulbs, rolled in the grass, dug in the mulch and had a great time! Later when we came inside they slept for four hours straight thru the afternoon.

The little bulb theives! haha Roman and Elle will do the same thing if they get something that's not theirs, especially Roman. He gets running so fast to get away with it, that his butt is tucked in under his body, like his back legs go faster than his front legs. Then when they get to the rise that goes to the dining room, they both "fly" over the step. They will sleep for hours after all of this fun. :)

Hmmm...It sounds like Hummie is just a more active, hyper dog then Herc. Many factors can attribute to a dog's behavior such as breeding (as in ancestor's traits/genetics), environment (getting enough exercise, how/where they are kept, etc.), and personality. Second dogs can be a bit harder to train in specific tasks if they lack the one-on-one sessions that the first dog got. Also, some can be less people-orientated and more dog-orientated having grown up with another dog vs. growing up by themselves.

I have found that my Chis all have different quirks that makes them tick-some stranger than others but funny to watch and just things to be dealt with. Bently likes to throw his food bowl around while he is eating-we can hear it sliding on the tile and hitting the walls of his room every night; Tally likes to sit while she is eating and always in the same spot or else she sneaks around her bowl like she is being bad and eating something she is not supposed to; and Heuser will only eat out of ONE bowl or from a paper towel and only drink from a glass-in both cases he holds up his left back leg like he is trying to lllleeeeeaaaannnn to get a bite or a drink and then backs up right away in case he "falls" in! Silly Wawas!

Sometimes, my Bentley likes to grab a bite, take it into his crate, come back and grab some more...like he's stocking up for the winter. Then, when he feels like he has enough in there, he'll crawl into the crate and go eat it. He doesn't always do this, but every once in a while. It's funny to watch.

I though maybe he thought somebody was going to steal his food from him, but he doesn't mind me or anyone else putting our hands in his dish while he is eating. We've been doing this so he'll get used to it and so that I don't have problems later. Is that a good or bad idea???
