Hummie is going in Tuesday morning for his neutering. :cry2: I've been putting it off and putting it off. I know he'll be fine, but he's such a little baby that I just dread taking him and leaving him alone at the vet. I'm also going to have the vet take a really close look at his skin. He scratches constantly on his underarms and his muzzle. His little mouth actually looks swollen from all his scratching. He's been in before for his little eyes he was scratching them constantly. I think he's got some sort of allergy. Anyway.. please keep my little baby in your prayers for a successful surgery and that he won't be in too much pain. I'll post tomorrow after I pick him up from the vet.

Heuser and Tally send warm wishes for a speedy recovery to their SS buddy!!! Hopefully the vet can recommend a course of action to help Hummer with his skin issues too!

Thank you Terri, Alyssa, Barb, and Sharon for the get well wishes for Hummie.
All went well with his neutering, dew claw removal, and skin scrape for allergies. Poor little baby really got worked over on Tuesday. When I picked him up he was still kind of out of it, didn't even wiggle his tail or even lick! He was pretty subdued all evening. I had a bad migraine headache, so I picked him up early and we came home and went to bed for several hours. Hercules was very happy to see him and I had to remind him to be gentle. He licked him all over and watched over both of us.
Wednesday morning he felt much better. He tinkled, drank some water and ate. By late afternoon he was playing and back to his old self.
The vet said he has food allergies, but they were out of the dry food he wanted me to try, so I'm supposed to call back Monday to see if they got more in stock. Hummie has to have his stitches removed in ten days, I need to cut the bandage off his paw, but I don't have the right scissors so I'll run him in tomorrow and let the vet cut it off for me. I'd hate to hurt him.
Does anyone have any experience with food allergies in pets? I'm really worried when it comes to trying new food out on him, he's so picky and I'll probably have to put Hercules on the same diet.
Thanks again for all the get well wishes!

Renata, I hope Hummer's feeling better with each day. He had a lot done. Does he have to wear a queen-anne collar? None of my dogs have never had to, and I can't imagine any of them would go for it. LOL And I hope your migraine's gone. I've never had one, but Terry gets them that last for 3 days sometimes, and I can tell they are no fun to have.
That's cute how Hercie was glad to see him.
I hope the new food helps Hummie's allergies. I wonder what it is in the food that gives him allergies...wheat or beef maybe? I think Science Diet has food for allergy problems. Please keep us posted on how the food change goes. :)

A friend of mine's golden retriever has food allergies and can only eat science diet potato and and fish diet. There are a few different science diet's for food allergies here but im not sure if they sell the same in different countries.
Its good to hear Hummer is slowly getting back to his old self, I hope he is bouncing around in no time. Give him a big cuddle and a kiss from me

Sammi Girl has food allergies and she is on the fish and potato dry dog food. I also give her a product from Dr. Foster and Smith called Biotin. It is recommended for doggies with itchy skin. Gracie also eats both the dry food and gets the Biotin even though she has no allergies. The food is fine for her and the Biotin imporved her coat as well.
Sammi is doing very well now. She has had no hives and has stopped scratching all the time. Once and a while she breaks out in her little armpits and I put on a very mild doggie cortizone cream that I also got from Dr. Foster and Smith web site called Itch Stop. When Sammi sees me with the the bottle of the itch cream she lies on her back and lets me spread it into her little armpits because she knows that it stops her itching.
Gracie (NOT SAMMI) gets a few drops of Linatone Oil in her food and this has cut down on her shedding and made her coat very soft. Don't give this to Hummer, the Linatone made Sammi break out. It seems that Sammi is allergic to any oils...
I am also very very careful to give both doggies NO people food whatsoever. This has helped too. They only get baby food veggies if they get constipated.
Hope this helps with little Hummie.
Dr. Foster and Smith are on the web. You can get to them through Google.

Thank you Faye for the information. Tomorrow I'm supposed to check with the vet again about the food, it should be in by now. I'm just so worried that neither one of them will eat it, I've spoiled them so badly by letting them eat next to me and off my plate. I know it's all my fault. Anyway hopefully it won't take too long to get them adjusted to the new food and they will gobble it right down. I'll be sure and ask the vet about the itch cream cause I'm sure Hummie will welcome any relief!

I thought of something: dog allergies are similar to people allergies and you can use the same program that doctor's recommend for patients. Try and figure out what is making Hummie break out. Often times, dogs develop allergies to certain proteins (usually chicken) or too much fillers (mostly wheat) in their food. Also, the quality of the food can make a difference due to ingredient quality and chemicals so organic or all organic, premium can be helpful. Many sensitive stomach or allergy foods recommended by vets are supposed to be temporary but they don't even know that. They are usually only one or two main ingredients with lots of preservatives and lack essential vitamins and minerals. Wellness has a new "Simple Food Solutions" for dogs with sensitivities that includes only 5 ingredients, I came across it while looking for pregnancy formulas for Tally. Check it out, it looks good!

Renata, I am happy to hear Hummers surgery went well. Hopefully you can find the food that works well for him, and all his skin problems will go away. Keep us posted on how it goes, and give Hummer big kisses and licks from me and the three T's!
