View Full Version : Kishi had to go to emergency vet......
This morning Kishi was moping around tucking her tail under anot wanting to walk on her back legs. :( I lifted her up and she would sit back down. She went outside to go potty and all seemed ok at the time.
I had to leave to go to work for a few hours, Gage got home before me, he called me and said that she wasn't well at ALL! :( She kept her head straight up and wasn't coherant at all. She wouldn't walk for nothing. I immediately called the emergency vet (which turned out to be or vet!!). Gage met my in town with her and she perked up a little when she saw me! The vet called back and said it would take her about 30 minutes to get to the clinic so we waited for her. She checked her out, her temp was high, her reflexes were slow but she was walking a little more with the back legs wobbling though. She checked out her tummy and spine and found that she was very uncomfortable with her touching her spine between her shoulder blades. She thinks that with as much juming and falling, etc. that Kishi does she tweaked something in there. She was in a lot of pain though, but still trying to be herself, bless her heart! She gave her a shot for the pain and said to just watch her and see if it helps. If she is still showing signs by Monday to bring her in and get some xrays done or if things get worse to call her again this weekend. :(
This scared me so much! Kishi has been my strong pupper all along and to see her in pain kills me knowing that both my babies are hurting! :(
She is doing better now, she is walking a little better but awfully sleepy, she is sleeping right now. ARRGHHH, what luck lately!

Oh NO!!!
That's what Casey was like last week. I thought she was in pain because she 'd scream at me with presure on tummy or shoulders. Kishi probably pulled a muscle or something while she was playing. Isn't this horrible. I take it her temp has gone down with the pain shot? I hope so.
Keep your chin up Mandi and Gage!

Look Gage.....Casey is admiring your artwork in her Gallery!!
Thanks guys. Kishi's temp went down last night and she seems to feel better today. The only thing that doesn't seem normal now is that she is very hesitant to jump although if she wants up she pushes it and tries. I think she must have pulled something too, at least that is better than messing up a disc or something. She is not a whiner though so she doesn't show pain very well. Her vet called this morning to check on her but I didn't hear the phone, she said she will call again later. She is eating, drinking, playing, etc. but not jumping so I know she feels better but probably still a little sore. GEEEZ, that scared the crap out of us!!!!

Wow, things happen so fast. They are fine one minute and then blam.
I am so glad your girl is getting better. I had a cat hurt his spine and he wasn't even able to walk. He recovered very fast and had no permanent problems. But you should have seen how bad he looked when I brought him to the vet. I thought he was a gonner. It can look so bad for them and then they get better.
P.S. I love the avatar with Lu's foil thought protecting hat.

Poor little Kishi, what bad timing!
I hope she feels better soon
Thanks everyone. I talked to the vet today, she called me wanting me to bring her in so che could check her temp again. I had to go to work on emergency so I couldn't but I stopped by and got her some pain pills though. She wants me to take her in on Monday just so that she can check her out once more. She is so sweet, I am glad to have such a caring vet.
Kishi was doing better this morning and was even playing and jumping but this afternoon she wouldn't jump at all, not even on the chair to look at the fish!! We have been picking her up a lot, we aren't used to that she does it all on her own, Lu is the one that won't jump on or off anything!! She has been sleeping a lot too, which also tells me she isn't feeling great yet. She seems to be doing soooo much better than last night though so we are thankful for that.
2chiwawa- I know what you are talking about, she looked like she was a goner last night, we were so scared and then she just perked up almost instantly (with a few quirks still, but much better). I don't think she wants to go get another shot again!! LOL

Sorry I missed this post Mandi! Heuser and I are both really worried about Miss Kishi!!! (after all, he LOVES yorkies AND she was his SS!!!) Glad to hear that she is felling alittle better and hopefully will be back to normal soon!
Alyssa
Thanks Lys!!! She seems to be doing better but I think I am going to take her in tomorrow just to make sure b/c she is on pain meds and seems to do fine when she takes them but you can tell when they start to wear off. I don't want to keep covering the pain for something tha could need attention, I'm sure you all agree. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks so much!!
I took Kishi in today and the vet is still a little concerned at how young she is and even having a little problem with her back. She wants me to crate her during the day while she is on her meds so that she doesn't jump around. When her meds start wearing off to take her out and hold her, try not to let her jump up on things. She doesn't feel the pain while on the meds therefore does what she wants then later she is coming to me hurting! This girl just doesn't learn her lesson, that is for sure. This crate thing is going to drive me crazy though cause she can't stand to be locked up!!! :cry2:
I took Lu in also, the vet wanted to recheck his thyroid (he is gaining weight AGAIN!!!) So we will know the results tomorrow or the next day.

Hi Mandi, just wondering what the results for Lu were and how Kishi is doing...suggestion: maybe you can put Kishi in a exercise pen instead of a crate because it is still a smaller area so she will be less inclined to jump around and stuff without having to be so restricted...Let us know how they are doing, okay? we're worried!

I was just going to post the same thing as Lys!
When Pascha broke her pelvis she had to be restricted and wasnt allowed to jump around or run for weeks, my vet suggested that we put her in a baby play pen so that she can still see whats going on, and we also got some matresses and pillows and made her a bed in the spare room because she wasnt able to sleep with us or jump on our bed.
I hope that Kishi recovers soon

OMG Mandi.. I somehow missed this thread too about Kishi.. How is she doing? Oh.. it just breaks my heart to hear of these sweet little babies in pain.
Tell her that Hercules and I send puppy kisses and huggies! Give some to Lu too! :flower:
Sorry guys, I haven't been able to get on the computer. Thank you for all your concerns! Kishi seems to be doing better although she is still sometimes hesitant to jump when he meds wear off. I borrowed my friend's crate (her boxer outgrew this one) and it is pretty big for her anyway. She does ok in there, better than I expected.
Lucius is still Lucius, he had "2" great days this week, which made me soooo happy although he back to what seems to be the 'norm' now. But at least he is having some good days! He is overweight AGAIN!!!! The vet ordered the Science Diet w/d and they sent them the 'ultra' kind. Well, when I bought it I asked them if it was the same thing and they said yes, so I took it home and I can't keep Lu out of it!!!! I have had to put a little food down in the morning and a bite or two at night (I can't stand to see him hungry). He ate the last kind but ONLY when he was really hungry which was better b/c he wasn't a little glutten!! This is the first dog food that I have ever seen him go ga-ga over. He is not a big eater in the first place so just another thing to adjust!!

Glad to hear that Kishi is doing better! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/liebe/love-smiley-022.gif No xrays for little miss thang! Woohoo!
I'm also glad to hear that Lu had two good days! Wish it could be more though, but a little is better than none at all. Give him and Kishi huggles and kisses from us!
What's that dog food you have Lu on right now? Science diet, it's almost time to change Abarenbo's food and I want something that he'll like.

Are you sure its Science Diet Mandi? Just checking 'cause Heuser used to be on a food called "Hill's Prescription Diet, C/D" for his allergies and I know they have a few other -/D varieties too...He used to scarf his up too!
Glad to hear that Kishi is doing okay in the boxer crate-that is probalby big enough to be a playpen for her, huh?!
Yay, Lu had TWO good days! I'm so happy to hear that! He is such a resiliant little guy!

My experience with dog food of many brands...Sheba's had many medical needs and dietary needs in her near 14 years. I have learned the the "diet" foods are pumped with "air" to only puff it up for the dog. She had to be on some medications for skin and pain problems and other things, but whatever, she gained an excessive amount of weight. She's supposed to be a 9 to 11 pound dog and was up to 34 pounds in no time which was worse than the initial problems. The meds did this rapidly. I had to put her on 1/2 the amount of food she needed. If that wasn't to do it, then cut that back too. She had to eat 9 peices of food for quite a while in order to lose.
She is now still not feeling the very best she could, but is down to 19 pouds-only a few away from her norm. I've worked with veterinarians with this for quite a few years. So dealing with sick dogs on meds and foods, I've done it...

HA...you are right Alyssa! It is Hills, I kept thinking it was Science Diet all along!!! Oh my! It is Hill's w/d Ultra that he is eating like crazy. The regular w/d was different and he didn't gobble it up like he does this stuff so the vet had them order more of that so we can get his weight down again.
Kishi seems alright now although I think she is hesitant on jumping at certain times now. Probably remembering, but I am glad to see her mostly back to her normal playful self again!
