Hi everyone.
Tazzy has a small 'zit like' bump on her back. It has not changed in the past couple of days, but I am wondering if anyone might know what it could be? It is above the skin, smaller than the top of an eraser, and above her left shoulder blade area. It doesn't seem to be hurting her when I touch it, but it is concerning me. I am thinking of calling the vet about it.

Is it reddish in color?

Hi Alicia, Oh, sorry Tazzy has a bump.:cry2: It could be just a little bite, or just a "pimple-type"/ingrown hair "sore". And my pups have had "bumps" like this that go away fairly quickly--within a couple of weeks or so...even longer. I just mark it on a calendar to make sure I keep track of it and it's progress, changes, etc.

I don't know what Tazzy has here, but I always try Neosporin for a couple of weeks, or longer, with things like this to see if it heals on its own; this type of bump has always gone away on my pups. But I don't know what you're seeing here. :-?

So if you think Tazzy should go to the vet, then don't hesitate because these are just my personal opinions on what I do. :-) Please let us know how this goes.

You are such a good Chi Mommy!

Hi Alicia,
Poor Tazzy, I hope she is ok. Can you ring your vet to ask questions over the phone?
Barb's right - you are a good chi mommy:razz:

Just checking up on Tazzy? Did you call your vet and ask them about it? Does it seem to bother her?

It isn't red in color, and doesn't seem to bother her at all.
Roman's mom, it lookslike a 'pimple like - ingrown hair' bump. I am going to keep an eye on it for a couple more days, and if it doesn't get better, then I will call the vet. Thanks for caring so much ,everyone!!!! :flower:

This reminds me of something Loppi had just a few months ago. I created a thread on this before, but can't find it now. Loppi had that bump thing..skin color.. for an awful long time and she never scratched it, never bothered her at all. Then one day, it just swelled and it became red and after a few days, it was all swollen and she had scratched it until it was bleeding. I brought her into 2 vets after the first one said she needed surgery and it might be due to some growth spurt. Her own vet said the same thing and I scheduled her immediately for the surgery to remove it for lab testing. WELL, 2 days before her surgery date, the swelling was almost all gone and she wasn't bothered much by it anymore and on the morning of the operation, I called to cancel because it was really starting to look better. It is gone now but we still don't know what it was.

Anyway, I hope Tazzy's ok!

There are several things that it could be, most of them harmless. Dogs can develop skin tags (extra skin), pimples, warts, bits, stings, and birthmarks. Tally has one on her left shoulder blade that is round and skin colored, although at times is slightly pink. It is only the size of a pin and never bothers her. Unless it swells, ruptures, or seems to bother her, I would just give your vet a call to see what he/she thinks and keep an eye on it. Most melanomas (skin cancer) is off-color and has irregular or jagged appearance.

Thanks everyone! The bump is virtually gone. I think it was an ingrown hair or something. I am going to keep checking i. You can never be to cautious with your babies! Thanks for all the advice and concerns !

Hi
Glad Tazzy's bump is gone.
Casey has one too - on her left shoulder blade. It's been there since the summer and I took her to the vet because I put polysporin on it and all the hair fell out!!!
He said it was perhaps from an i.v. she had had for one of her stomach upsets. She got sick and that could have been where they put the fluid into her.
She still has it but it sounds much like what you guys are experiencing.
I showed it to our local Chi people at a meet-up and one of they thought it was non threatening.
Still has a bald spot around the bump tho.
