I found a tick on Paco on Thanksgiving. The tick was right above his little eye. It was hard to remove but we finally got it. Now he has a scab from the tick. Should I out antibiotic cream on the scab? The tick was grey when it came out but it was already dead too.
Also, does anyone use revolution on their chi's for fleas and heartworms? Do you know if that kills ticks?

The most important thing is to make sure that you removed the tick's head and mouth which often seperates from the body when removed from the animal. As long as it is out, a little ointment won't hurt but I'd check with your vet first. I know that several people here use topical treatments against fleas and ticks, I just know that not all of them are approved for ticks. Personally, I don't think that they are safe enough for dogs, especially as small as chihuahuas are and so don't use any on Heuser and Tally. Just a thought...

Sorry to hear Paco had a tick. I've asked our vet if Neosporin ointment is OK for dogs. He said only Neosporin ointment is fine and nothing else. :)
We use Advantage for fleas on Sheba, our Sheltie, which keeps fleas away from our yard and house 100%, but will be switching to Advantantix flea/ticks soon. We will have to get Roman and Elle on it soon as well, that is, if we want them to be able to go on walks when we camp, or around here. There's not much more we can do for it here, since Lyme disease is a huge threat for them here. :-? We use a seprate heartworm med.
PS...although I understand Lys's concern as well on the flea meds. :)

HI there. A tick huh?!? I would make sure you removed everything, and a little ointment will help. We use Revolution on all three of our dogs, and we have excellent results with it. It does work for Ticks also. I have never found one on any of my doggies.
