Is he scooting his butt?? If so, maybe his anal glands ...yes there are glands in the anal...need to be drained. This is something the vet can take care of for ya.
Lys, is great at explaining these kinds of things, so maybe she can jump in on this?

most likely it is his anal glands....take him to a vet or groomer they can drain them for you....

Wow, anal glands, I have never heard of this? He does it once in awhile but not all the time. Would you take him to the vet?

Hi. We know this too well. LOL Yes, I'd take Paco to the vet or groomers, and then if you want to, you can watch them and try it yourself thereafter. It's not hard to learn to do, just stinkie, so it works well to do during their shower or bath. :-?

Hubby and I do this cleaning for Roman, Elle and Sheba. Here's a link with illustrations of the anal sacs. Although this says anal sac disease, don't think that's wrong with Paco...most dogs need this cleaning. This will show you where they are. However, if they really need them cleaned and it's not done, they can rupture.

Here's another link. This one is a discussion we had recent here:

Sounds like Barb did a good job on this one, here's a thought or two...
The anal glands often become "impacted" in toy breeds and need to be expressed manually. I do the same as Barb suggested and do Tally and Heuser's during bathtime when they're in the sink. Have your vet or groomer show you how to do them and they are easy to do by yourself. Don't do them more than once every 2 weeks (unless your vet says otherwise) because it can actually increase the production of the fluid and becomes more likely to become infected if irritated.

Lovemygirls had a bad experience with impacted anal glands if I remember correctly, her dog had to have them removed which is a very serious surgery and pretty risky. Better to keep up with them and express them when needed.

Be sure that Paco is parasite-free and current on his heartworm meds because scooting their rear ends is also a sign of worms.
