This is the second post on carsick dogs.

I've never had a dog who suffered from being carsick. Elle is the first. So I've been checking in to it and seeing what the best sollution is. There is not much that can be done, other than to knock them out with a dog-sleep medication. So perhaps for a long trip that might be the answer, but I won't do that to her for short 30 minute to two hour, one way trips to town. I would think that would be worse for a dog to medicate it like that. But anyone with other information and advice, or otherwise, please post.

I know Loppi's Mom had posted to check into ginger for dogs. I haven't done that yet. So that may still help a bit. :)

I try to feed Elle a bit earlier in the morning and less amount. Also, I give her more canned and less dry food thinking that could be easier on her. I hate to not feed her at all, since we never get home until after 5 P.M. I still need more advice and remedies to try. I'm afraid she will get dehydrated since she gets carsick at least 4 times in a 1 hour round trip. :???: That can't possibly be good for such a little body. Is there Pediolite or some sort of suppliment I can give her to replenish liquids, if even needed during the trip, or our usual 5 hour trip to town?

****IMPORTANT****NEVER GIVE THE DOG DRAMAMINE OR ANY HUMAN MEDICATIONS! IT WILL KILL THEM!****** I am passing this on from our veterinarians office.

I am sorry to hear little Elle isnt enjoying travelling. Cookie rode along with me and Zachary to NY from SC when she was a puppy, and she absolutely loved every minute of it. She even knew to wee wee on the newspaper that I laid on the floorboard of the back of the car (in between rest stops outside).
Brownie, however, is a Dog of Distress when we go anywhere. A 10 minute trip to the pet store will annoy him, and have him whining. He has only thrown up once after a car ride, and I suspect it had more to do with the raw carrots we gave him, and not the car's movement. But, he doesnt relax in the car as Cookie does, and only snoozes on the seat when Cookie falls asleep (then, he cozies up to her and naps).
Please let me know what you find that is natural, for Brownie to nibble on so he isn't such a cranky guy in the car.
Take care. Kisses to your sweet chihuahuas and Sheba.

Awe.. Poor Elle.. sorry to hear she has such a hard time traveling. Please send kisses to her from the H2's..

Luckily, my babies love to ride in the car. I took them back in May to Little Rock to visit my sister and that was three hours. Hummie slept most of the way, Hercules stayed awake and looked outside the entire time. They even got in a few fights for the fun of it!
