Hi Everybody

I had a bad reaction to my flu shot and I just wanted to warn everyone to be careful...
I've only had one before about 5 years ago and was sick off and on for the entire winter so I swore off them.

This year with all the 'running low' hype and the fact that I have 2 diabetics in the house plus tiny kids I decided we would all get one ( my hubby Diabetic always gets one and has no problems). Not so much worried about myself but the ability of the others to fight off a bad flu should I carry one into the house.
We were warned to wait 15 minutes and to report any itchyness or funny feeling in the throat etc it's very serious and life-threatening to be allergic and you need adrenalyn/hospital etc.etc. I heard all the warnings.

I waited the 15 minutes felt fine and we left.
I started to feel itchy and we joked that I was a hypocondriac and kept driving farther and farther away from the clinic.
Sitting in rush hour traffic - dark pouring rain - it got worse and worse with the itching spreading down my neck and my eyelids.
I remembered that the nurse told me if I was having a reaction I would very quickly be unable to swollow and so I checked...I couldn't swollow.

Well I yelled to my kids - we swopped seats, one of them got out and ran for a motorist to call 911 and there we were at a red light in the dark rain with all the doors open and that blessed door-open warning beeping incessently.

I absolutly panicked and ordered them to get back in and drive me away?????????????

I believe that my own adrenelin kicked in and saved me because I was FREAKED out at the choking feeling and the fact that we were holding up traffic and how would emerg trucks get to me??????? I don't know but all I can say it that I have an angel who took pity on my stupid streak!

I realize that my being in Canada it might be a bit different but my advice is to please take the time and wait 30 mins and don't ignore any symptoms. They are real and life-threatening.

Also .....If your children call 911 because you are swelling up and choking yourself.....LET THEM!

Love
Glad to be alive Bev

Bev, OMG! Terry and I know how serious that is, and we know how lucky you are! But must you take my hypochoncriac title from me? hehe Really, That sounds like me!! haha Tell me to watch for that and deny it all the way to the red light where I could hold up traffic! Totally ME! hehehe

Seriously, Terry and I are glad you had a happy ending. Next time you are told to watch for...do not think, "naw, that does not mean me! :w00t:"

We hope you are feeling fine and well now!

Hi Bev, Terry says that terrible itching inside and out! Glad it's gone. I only saw him go through it and truthfully, at the time, was glad it was HIM AND not me.

We have thought you all this time, but didn't want to bother you asking you how you were. We have been very concerned. Terry didn't feel real good for quite some time from his anaphylactic (sp) reaction. He felt "off" so we hoped you are almost fully recovered. It's not something that just ends all of a sudden like it starts. ...so really glad you are feeling a bit better.

PS Your story just happened to have a bit of humor to it. LOL

Oh my gosh! I swear I responded to this-I'm SO sorry Bev!!!

What a scare! Heuser, Tally, and I are SO relieved that you made it through your ordeal okay-but that is really, really scary!!!

I am SO glad that your adrenaline kicked in (atleast that part of your body was working, because the brain wasn't-you silly lady!) and saved the day! I can't believe that you told them to keep driving?!!!

Whew, that was a close call-so glad that you are alright!

I too got the shot (I work in an ob/gyn office so I could due to being @ preggers.). anyway..... the only side effect I had was flu like symptoms the next day but I was fine after that. I know there were some contaminated batches that they recalled..... I hope that wasn't the cause of your situation but regardless of the whys or why nots..... I am really sorry it happened and am glad your okay!!!!

Hugs,
Brenda

Oh wow, Bev, you scared me with telling that story! I felt like I was right there beside you in the car! :( I'm so glad you are feeling better. Having an anaphylactic reaction is so scary, and that feeling of helplessness freaked me out one time too many, when I was in boot camp for the Navy. There was a sulfur leak on base, and I began choking. I was rushed into the clinic! Everytime I go to the V.A. Hospital as a patient now, I remind them to make sure my meds are not sulfur based. I am soooooooo glad you are ok.
