So I was talking to some Chihuahua friends today at work about the now, much anticipated breeding of Tally and Heuser and another customer overheard our conversation. I noticed her interest and when I was helping her, she brought up the topic in a very polite and nice way. Basically, she expressed interest in a female chihuahua puppy and wanted to know when they would be born, available, price, etc. and I tried to answer her the best I could. We had a lovely conversation inwhich I was able to correct several of her misconceptions (teacups, price increases for size, etc). I told her that they would be due at the end of February but not available until atleast 12-16 weeks which means around the end of May. Also, that price really depends on the quality of the puppy and if Tally needs a C-section or not. I did tell her however that since the puppies would be a bit older, the good thing is that they would come with all their shots and if necessary, already spayed or neutered. That's when she got weird. She immediately asked why I was going to fix them before they went to new owners. To which I replied that I am a firm believer that breeding quality males should also be show quality and I would be keeping any females of good quality. Therefore, unless I would be lucky enough to get more than one show quality puppy in the litter, all the rest will be pets. She thanked me for all the information and immediately ended the conversation. I guess she didn't like my answer! I even told her that if I do get more than one show dog, that I would be willing to place it in a show home and even help them to show the dog! Apparently, she wasn't interested! Shady, if you ask me...Hmmm...

That does sound shady doesnt it!
This is going to sound stupid but can you sterilise a dog at 12 to 16 weeks? I dont know if I have heard of that before unless its not something they do here?? (they could and maybe I just dont know about it:oops: )

I think its great to be upfront like you Lys and tell potentional owners the deal, this way they know exactly what to expect and you also can work out who is genuine and you can have the benifit of finding a perfect place for heuser/tally babies.

So come on tell us more, im assuming Tally will be inseason in a few weeks ?? Lys you have to give us details and millions of pics, this is a HUGE event that I have been looking forward to for ages! Hey you know if I didnt live a million miles away I would want to be on the list as a potential owner of a Heuser/Tally baby chi:-P

Well, procedures have come a long way and with the tiny incisions and updates to the surgery, many vets feel that spaying and neutering as young as 6 weeks old is a safe practice. As long as they are over 2 pounds. So regardless, we will wait until atleast 12 weeks to evalute the pups and for them to weigh enough. Benefits include quick recovery time (faster than 4-12 month old dogs) and insures that the pup will not be bred from. I will include the service in the dog's price and continue to be up front with people about it. There are many that believe there is NO better pet then a neutered male and I tend to agree.

I would LOVE for you to have a puppy Terri, I know that you and Stephen are GREAT chihuahua parents and I would much rather my dogs go to people experienced with the breed! Too bad you are SO far away! I am still trying to figure out if there is a realistic way to get one to Jen way off in Hawaii, we'll see if we can't figure out all the laws and regulations there...

Tally has blown her coat and its usually a sign that they are coming into season in 4-6 weeks. I am predicting the second or third week in December but we'll see. I can't wait and Matt is excited too! I might even take pictures of them during the "creation" process. Heuser is excited too needless to say! We are also looking over another bitch's pedigree and history for a potential stud service, so he may go from the big V to big Pimp'n in the next month or so!

I think the quarantine laws in Hawaii are similar to here, which means VERY strict. I hope you can send a pup to Jenjen, she would love that! It might be cheaper to just take a trip there and take the pup on as your hand luggage;-) and have a holiday at the same time:razz:
Take pictures during the birth too!! Yes please do, take pictures constantly from conception until you let the pups go, we want all the details and all the pics - I promise we wont get tired of them:)

You could make a mini documentary from conception to birth to first steps etc. etc. What a gift this would be for all other chi lovers. I have only been able to see such limited pics of baby chis. Maybe if people could see what their births and first few months are really like they would not buy pups from puppy mills and/or would not buy chis at all if they were not going to be good chi parents.
