My Paco doesn't have the regular chihuahua face but I know he is definitley a chihuahua. Does anyone have a chi that has a deer looking face? with a longer snout and different eyes?

Your Paco actually reminds me of Lucky!!! What do you think Sharon?
As far as not having a short nose or "bug" eyes as you called them, Chihuahuas come in all types and sizes due to the thousands of people that breed them. Some call them "Applehead" and "Deerhead" but it should be used only as a description rather than an actual name (as in that chihuahua has an applehead, not that is an Applehead Chihuahua). The most commonly seen chihuahuas are the longer nosed, larger variety. In the showring on the other hand, the only type seen and shown are the short nosed, domed head type known as appleheads. According to the AKC and the Chihuahua Club of America, they are the "correct" type of chihuahua but the AKC accepts any dog that can prove it has registered parents to register regardless of quality-that is why it is important to know more about a puppy than if it is AKC registered, etc. As an interesting side note, the longer, leaner, skinnier type that is now called a deer head is actually what was shown in the early part of the century and up until around 1950.
Big or small, long or short, fat or skinny, they all have that Chihuahua attitude that we love!

PS-Here's a link to the CCA and our official standard that responsible and dedicated breeders are striving for. The best part about a written standard is that it is open to personal interpretation and each of us can strive for our version of the "perfect" chihuahua. http://www.chihuahuaclubofamerica.com/standard.html
PPS-There are responsible and dedicated breeders out there that prefer the deer head type and produce healthy, genetically sound dogs. Chihuahuas, more than almost any other breed are plagued by irresponsible, backyard, uneducated breeders who breed the dogs just to make money or just because they have two dogs with the right parts to reproduce. This is not in the best interest of any of the dogs involved and its up to prespective owners to educate themselves as to not support these people in what they are doing to our breed.

My Faline is the "deerhead" type. I just thought her little face was so cute. In fact that is where I got her name. She looked like a little fawn. I did not want to name her Bambi and that is when I remembered that Bambi's girlfriend was named Faline!
