We do all of Roman's Grooming ourselves. :D

i voted for both...cause sometimes we bath Lucky at home but when it comes to nails and anal glands and trimming hair we take him to the groomers

I groom both my kids by myself-I like doing it since you have to be really careful with the coat condition for the show ring, etc. and I don't think I could afford to have someone else do it once a week for two dogs! :wink:

We groom the babies ourselves. Although it doesn't take much so maybe that's why we do it, and they're both s/c too. So every saturday's before Abarenbo's obedience class they get showers, and their nails trimmed. What kind of nail filer do you use, if any?

We give our chi's a bath/shower every week and trim their nails every couple of weeks.
All 3 hate every second of the shower but love to run around afterwards.
And I always get my husband to do the anal gland deed .... eeeew!

What kind of nail filer do you use, if any?

I actually use a human coarse emery-board like nail file on Heuser's nails because the metal ones tend to be to tough and rip the nail to shreds (plus I don't stab him if I slip on accident!)

Tally's are too long to file yet, we are working on cutting them back gradually each week to shorten the quick, but after that I want to get a rotary tool from the hardware store with a sanding attachment that grinds the nails down, LOL!!! They aren't kidding when they say showing dogs gets expensive because of all the stuff you suddenly "need" in order to be like everyone else!

Thanks Lys. I tried to use those mental ones once, I was like "man, this isn't doing anything for me here!" So I stopped, I think I'll pick up a human nail filer. I think Alana's nails seem sharper than they really are because she makes them come up when she puts her paws on you, kind of like a cat. :x I don't think the rotary one would work with her, if it makes a lot of noise, she'd go bananas! :D :shock:

I do all the bathing but take them to have their nails clipped to scared of hurting them they have black nails and i cant see the quick.

I do the bathing myself..usually in the tub with me! Hercules loves taking a bath, but the drying off part he hates and turns into a little land shark! Bitting and bitting.
The nails I've done once or twice myself, one time at PetSmart and the other times at the vet.
We haven't had the anal glands checked yet, but I will mention the next trip to the vet.

I voted I do it myself, b/c I do Lucius all the time, no groomer. Kishi on the other hand goes to the groomer about once every month or two just to get ear hairs plucked, trimmed up, nails, anal glands, etc. I do all the bathing and basic gooming of her.

I would take Brit to a nice lady named Wanda but the past couple months...I've been cleaning her hairy butt and boobies and trimming her nails! :P
