There was a big thing in the media here in the last week about people spending too much money on their dogs and pets in Australia. A lot of Australians find it funny that people spend heaps of money on their pets, not me though.

I was adding it up last night and this year we would have spent at least $4000 already on the chi's (2 operations, boarding kennel fees, vaccinations, toys, food, fencing, cost of Biff, etc). This is a lot of money to us but when it comes to the chi's we dont spare a cent. This is frowned upon in the city where I live so we dont really shout it out across the tree tops.

Does everyone else come across this kind of critisism where they live ??

Not really. Only from my hubby and my one friend who is not a dog person. I had never know a person who did not like dogs! I just spent $50 in two days on Falines new sweaters for the year. I will spend $185 in 6 days for her spay, ect, ect........

I've had people tell me that I spend more on my dogs clothes than they spend on their own. I do buy them lots of little outfits, but I don't think I spend as much as people spend. I rarely buy really expensive items. I try and shop around for cute clothes that are at a good price.

Wow, $4000? That's it?! ROFL!!! (What's the money exchange difference, do you know?)

I'm not a good person to ask about spending money since I work in a dog bakery, lol, but Matt's family definatly doesn't understand spending any on the dogs but thats another post...

I can't even begin to think about how much we've spent this year on the Chihuahuas. Between purchasing Tally in January, then show entries for both of them, and travelling expenses including hotels, food, and gas, and also vet bills and a plane ticket for Heuser and I to show at Nationals, WHEW!!! I'd better not let Matt do that math!!! Let's just leave it at well over $2,500-gosh! I'm definately one of those crazy dog ladies! I guess that's why I'm walking around in Target tee-shirts, holey jeans, and sneakers, huh? And that's just showing on a limited basis and only to get their Championships!!! It really makes you realize how much money is spent on the dogs that are being campaigned across the country to go to top shows like Westminster and Eukanuba-like well over $100,00! So we're not that bad, are we?!

I'm all for spending our money on our dogs, in my opinion it seems less selfish then going out and buying things for myself anyways. (I'll keep telling myself that, thank you very much-hahaha!!!)

Want to suggest any good places online?

Whew!!!! I know ALL about spending the money on my pets also!! Well, Lucius himself I have spent close to $10,000 on in 2 years JUST on doctor bills! Now when we talk about their treats, chewies, endless toys, hair care, etc., etc., etc. I don't even want to know myself. I enjoy it so much though.
I do get A LOT of critisism from friends and family though on how much I spend and do for my animals. Most people DO NOT get the medical insurance that I pay for for Kishi and Lucius, they think that I am completely crazy. OH WELL!!!!! LOL

I enjoy spending money on Gracie and Sammi Girl. But I am someone who makes no "bones" about thinking of them as my children.

I took them to get their nails clipped today and they wore new matching red t-shirts with little red and white roses on the necks because it was cold out. They looked very pretty and everyone who saw them enjoyed looking at them and I was very happy looking at them and seeing the people's reactions.

So as far as I am concerned that was money well spent. Life is too short with our babies and I want to have a good time with them while I am blessed to have them with me.

We spend what we consider basics on them...then we bought the travel trailer so we dont have to board them. We bought the SUV (car) so they are comfortable. LOL

I don't have money right now to buy all the clothes and frills I see for them, like $35.00 Polo shirts, carrier purses, jewelry for Elle, etc...Roman and Elle only dream of a big window Chi stand, like Busty's... LOL ...one of these days.

But they don't do without the essentials, that's for sure. I don't notice if it's the norm or not. I'm sure now I'll notice I spend too much on toys and Nylabones. hehe

Barb you should get Terry to make one, use some cheap chipboard and carpet remnants (carpet shops usually give them away). It would be a bit of work to make but the pleasure of seeing them use it is fantastic. We are going to make a new invention similar to the window chi stand on my holidays in about a months time, we are calling it 'the travelator' and is going to be a ramp from the bedroom window to outside so the chi's can go in and out from the bed LOL, sounds odd but its going to be great;-)
