This has happened before but I never see it as close as I did two days ago...and I just can't get it off my mind....the street in front of my house is *REALLY* busy with high speed cars and trucks. Well it was around 9:30 in the morning and I was watering the plants on my porch...I was faceing the street...all of a sudden this little J.R.T. darted out in the street and the next thing I heard was a thud the this LOUD and steady screeming...the little guy was hit be a school bus...naturally no one stoped...I jumped over the fence and pulled the baby onto the grass...he was hit in his head blood was everwhere....I just held the little baby and cried and rocked him...he was haveing seasures (sp?) Then became very stiff I felt for a pulse on his inner thigh but nothing...I'm still cring a lot and I can't get the echo of his screams out of my head....and who the h*ll would allow it's dogs run lose!!!???? I phone animal control and asked them to bring along their micro-chip detector I told them I'll be sitting on the porch with the dog.....It's sad but I didn't know what esle to do...I asked them to take the body. I had blood all over me. I STILL can't stop crying and keep hearing in my head those screams it was awful.

Anne, I'm so sorry. http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/cry002.gifThat's so sad about the little J.R.T and the school bus. I'm sorry you had to witness that again as well, and you're sure not dumping it on us.

I don't like to see dogs running loose either, and so many people do it. I even see the tiniest of Chi's trotting around on sidewalks with no one there with them in sight. Dogs just don't know enough to stay away from cars either.

You're so kind to have held the jack r. in your arms in his last moments before crossing Rainbows Bridge. http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/cry002.gif

I'm sorry this happened. At least the JRT was in loving hands b4 he crossed Rainbow Bridge. Did Animal Control find out who the dog belonged to?

I am so sorry you had to go through that. I am glad you were there for the little guy so he did not have to die alone. Hope you feel better.

How traumatic. I am so sorry this happened to you Anne. Poor little baby. His owners were not watching over him properly. But at least he had the comfort of your arms in his last moments. Please take care of yourself.

I'll never figure out *WHY* folks let their dogs (and CATS) roam free...the way I look at it is a parent who has a 2 yr old child would *THEY* let their kid play in the streets. Some people are just STUPID STUPID STUPID:evil:

Well the dog had no micro chip on him or a tatoo either. I do alot of pet sitting in my area but never known this little guy. One thing that ticked me off was when the animal patrol got here I was crying very very hard and it was hard to let the dog go and the man said "Geeez lady you act like it was *YOUR* dog...Get a life!" I got so mad and if he was closer I would have kicked him where he lives...the stupid jerk!!

That's AWFUL Anne!!! I am just cringing at what you went through with that poor little dog!!! It was hit by a school bus and the bus didn't stop?!!! Did you get a name or number or anything on it to identify it? I'd call the local new station and clue them into the tragic accident! If nothing else, hopefully the dog's owners can be located. Not to disagree with what you said about people who let their dogs roam, but Jack Russells are one of those breeds that are escape artists and known to roam and the owners could be out searching for the little guy right now!!! I can't imagine living with myself if Heuser or Tally ever got away and I didn't know what happend to them, it would kill me wondering each day what had happend to them and if they were alive and with good people or suffered a horrible fate like this little guy. Most local newspapers allow people to run "found" adds for three days free-of-charge for dog owner's to find their dogs. I'd try everything I could to find the poor dog's owners and let them know what happend. I'm sorry you had to go through this!

Well that's one reason I told Animal Control to bring a micro-chip reader...but the dog didn't have one also in my town the animal control people put a 'lost&found' ad in the paper themselves. One thing I *DID* do was phone all the local vet hospitals and told them. They were helpful and they all said they would looks thru their clients that might live in the area where it happened. I'm sorry I didn't reply to you all sooner but it was just so disturbing having seen this and running thru my mind over and over again so fresh in my mind. I just got the info to the folks who might be able to help....I wanted to give myself several days for this to dull-down in my mind. I agree the little guys owner...if he had one...could be very worried. I remember when my Chico got out the door and ran away into the night...it was a feeling of terror for me....and Chico is mostly black and it was dark outside and I was so afraid he'd get hit as well.

Well I just remembered how I felt the night Chico ran out the door that night...I was so upset I'd thought I'd have a break down :cry2: Chico & Tex are very close so that night I put Tex on his leash and we walked thru out the night til about 4am calling out for him...I brought Tex hoping he might be able to follow Chico's scent and find him. And as I held the little JRT and just the way I was crying I was also crying for his owner.
