Well, it is cold and raining here and Faline will not go potty. I put her out and she shakes by the door even with her new sweater on. I hope this is not a sign how winter will be. She has been really great going good potty outside for a while now. I hope winter is not a setback!

Bad news, winter probably will set her back just a bit but keep on trying! When Heuser was going through his first winter potty trained, his accidents increased but then went away once the weather warmed up and the same happend to Tally. I tried to make accomidations (sp?) for them by putting down puppy pads right next to the door or just outside of it so that they had an alternative to going out in the cold, wet, or snowy yard and they both learned to do their business on them as quickly as possible. Good luck!

I thought as much :( Oh well, it can't be worse than last winter when she never went potty except on our carpet! I will try the puppy pad suggestion if I get desparate. My hubby hates those things.

Something else that might work for Faline...When we were potty training Roman, we carried him out in the yard so that he had to go potty on the way back. He was on a leash for this. And if he didn't go, we did it until he went. Soon, he was happily going potty quickly, then off to play or come indoors. Of course, that meant me getting soaked and fighting an umbrella in the wind with one hand. lol

With Elle, we skipped the outdoor potty training all together and only use potty pads for her because I know she's not the outdoor type like Roman is. Roman is now all potty pad trained, so once in a while he'll still sit by the door for a few seconds and then remembers he has the potty pad and runs off to use it.

I thought of going out with her and did yesterday and she finally went. But winters are bad here do I really want to be out there in a snow storm!? I would not mind the pads. My husband on the other hand......

My chihuahuas Cookie and Brownie are newspaper trained, since we live in an upstairs apt. and I don't want to attempt the stairwell with them several times a day (I'm clumsy, with my health issues). Our local paper isn't worth the 50 cents I spend on it---it's newsless---so I feel I am getting my "money's worth" by reading it, then having it tinkled and poo'd upon by my chis. They hated the puppy pads when I tried, and Cookie still stands with her front paws on the newspaper, and makes a puddle on my bathroom tiles. No matter where I place the paper, she still insists on crouching and wee weeing on the edge. Arggg! We live in coastal South Carolina, so our winters are very mild, rarely a snow flake. My two darlings adore going outside to "decorate" every bush and tree in the neighborhood with pee and their Tootsie Rolls. Umm, yes, Baggie o' Poo, not pretty!!!
Good luck with Faline's outdoors training. Hope she will be a real good girl during the cold weather.
