I always love "window shopping" online to view the pics of chihuahuas. Buddy on page 2 has really gorgeous markings and fuzzy ears that would be kissable 24/7 a day.
But, in reading the biographies about each pup, I think the stress the breeder puts on their teeny size should be shifted to the health of each pup, information on it's parents, etc. I got the impression he is targeting the public sector who only wants a iddy biddy chihuahua. I will be the first to admit that I knew nothing before I welcomed Cookie (then Brownie) into my home. However, I would rather have a healthy 6 1/2 pounder like Brownie than a puppy who has been purposely bred to be what the breeder claims is "Teacup" sized adult. I hope that if these pups do grow larger than what the breeder has claimed, the buyers are not disappointed and ditch the adults if they exceed past 3 pounds. For breeding purposes, size matters. For simply loving a chihuahua and not planning to have litters and preserve the intregrity of the breed, a healthy chihuahua, in my humble (and maybe airheaded opinion), is acceptable too. Afterall, Brownie is not overweight, and is healthy, and it's more to love!!! Cookie, my smaller female, is 5.25 pounds of lovin'.

They are very cute babies:wub:
Thanks for posting the link lilblizzardchic, it is fun to see baby chi puppies
Zoe you dont sound cranky, just concerned for the pups well being. I feel exactly the same way. Its very worrying to me to hear of a tiny 3lb bitch giving birth to 6 pups. It is obvious that the so called breeder is unaware of the harm in breeding her tiny bitches if they are advertising the fact.
I sent her an email asking some 'tough' questions. I cant wait to hear the reply.;-)

Thanks for emailing the breeder. I am interested to hear her "defense." Since Cookie is spayed, I am the only mean one in my family!!!!!!!!!!

Grrr...don't even get me started!
Here's the facts:
Several breeders have gotten together to produce some tiny chihuahua puppies that may or may not live past their second birthdays due to health problems, low blood sugar, and accidents.
These same breeders offer full registration and do not require that the puppies they knowingly produce are protected from being bred by uneducated owners.
They make several claims as to the quality of their puppies including supposed "adult weights" that are impossible to tell that early in the pup's life (show quality should be THE SAME as breeding quality and very few people (if any) can accurately prodict a dog's quality at the early age of 6-12 weeks) and although guesses can be made about weights, most puppies are not done growing and filling out until they are 18 months old. (for example, the 3 pound, 6 month black and tan bitch they already sold who is "exactly three pounds," the new owners may be disappointed when she gets to 4-5 pounds in 12 months like Heuser did (he was 2.8 at 6 months and now is 4 lbs.)
Most importantly, THESE PUPPIES SHOULD NEVER BE SHIPPED!!! Think about it-tiny size, low body weight, and the BEST POSSIBLE CONDITIONS STILL result in fatalities, who in their right mind would subject them to the stress, rough handling, and tempertures of airline shipping?!!!
Chihuahuas are supposed to range 2-6 (and of course larger) pounds and any ETHICAL breeder who has tiny puppies that will mature to the minimum weight limit only places them in pet homes with careful consideration and with owners experienced with these tiny ones. This website claims that the "larger" 4-5 pound dogs are good for familys and children-That is RIDICULOUS!!! Heuser is 4 pounds and while petite, would NOT survive living in a home with children, shame on them for trying to make it sound like chihuahuas are family dogs like labs.
I wonder what their survival rate is? Do they count in it how many bitches they have sold that have died trying to give birth? And how many have been invovled in "accidents" due to negligent owners? What about kids?
I know this sounds harsh, but it is the reality that many would rather pretend did not exhist.

PS-This topic really strikes a chord with me, I met a lady yesterday at work who was buying a card for her mother who just "lost her chihuahua." I was very upset for her only to find out that they bred the poor angel at 8 months old and just 3 pounds to a "friend's chihuahua" who wasn't "much bigger." Then, she went on to tell me that "by the time the vet took care of her" (note, the tortured chihuahua struggled to whelp a puppy for THREE HOURS before the owner FINALLY took her to the vet!), they lost both puppys and the dam. No matter what anyone says, breeders like those in this website SHOULD be held responsible for producing AND PROTECTING through spay/neuter contracts that the dogs they create are given a fair chance at life despite the horribly uneducated and ignorant people that they sell to.

Here are my questions that I sent in an email:
(sounding very innocent of course);-)
1) How old do you let your chi pups go?
2) I was reading some conflicting information on the internet that said there is no such thing as a teacup chi, but most of the chi pups I have seen advertised on your site are advertised as teacup, do you know if there is a standard? Can we show your pups?
3) We already have a pet chi and in your site it says your pups are very delicate, does this mean its ok to play with my chi?
and the response:
1.The Chihuahuas We let go home after 8 weeks of age.
2.There is no such thing as a Teacup.. its just a word we use to Describe the Super TIny Chihuahuas Usually unde 3lbs full grown.
3. Should be fine. Some of the Chihuahuas we have are more for pets. But we do have a couple Show Quality Pups Available as Well. As long as its another Chihuahua it should be fine. The reason i put that in there was more for the avoidance of Small Children, and Large dogs.
I am writting another email in reply to hers, I want to know why such a tiny bitch was breed and if she is ok after giving birth to 6 pups, and also I want to know if she is aware that most tiny chi's are very unhealthy and their life expectancy is short. Oh and of course why does she lets tiny baby chi's go to a new home at 8 weeks of age!
I will write the email tonight (about 12 hours from now) so if anyone has any other questions they want me to add, feel free to add it here and I will include it.
Normally im not a mean person but when it comes to animals they cant talk for themselves and need someone to talk for them.

You are SO good Terri! I get all fired up and can't help but get VERY opinionated so THANK YOU for being so great about trying to find out more...I'd ask something about breeding your "new" dog to the pet you already have and see what they say, since they give full registration on some of their puppies. Also, ask about where they register their dogs and why...I'm wondering about why some are ACA, UKC, etc. registered...

i agree with all of you it is wrong that they are putting a female through such pain and the fact that someone would get rid of their dog because he is just to big i love chihuahuas with all my heart and would never be able to do that i would pick a chi under a couple of circumstances i have to think it is cute (i know it sounds like i am so airheaded that i have to say that but i know you will all agree why own a chi if you dont like it) i also need to see the parents to see how they are treated plus where the pups are kept if the place looks like a sh*t hole then there is no way i am going to support it and last but not least the chi must must must be healthy

One of the coolest things about purebred dogs is that each of us are drawn to a certain breed's look or type. That is part of the reason why people have been selective breeding all these years along with function. I don't think you are at all airheaded in saying that you would pick one you though was cute, after all, that is what conformation showing is all about (the way a dog is made and looks) and I am right there with you! As long as breeding the dog that you like doesn't require pain or trauma to the dogs having to produce it, that's exactly why all of us here are attracted to the dogs that we have. Its like art, and each of us has our own taste or version of what a Chihuahua is in our minds-to each their own. I personally like the type that is seen in the show ring (duh) but have come to realize that even more importantly, I like the temperament of Chihuahuas-and that really has nothing to do with the package the dog comes in!
