Puppies found abandoned near beach

MOONSTONE BEACH -- Tourists from Arizona visiting here Tuesday morning found a box full of puppies in the parking lot and authorities are looking for whoever left them there.

The four Labrador-mix puppies were found without food or water and were immediately taken to the Humboldt County Animal Shelter.

All of the puppies, a male and three females, appear to be in good health.

A Humboldt County Sheriff's Department press release states that animal abandonment is a crime punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine.

Anyone with information on the abandonment is asked to call the Animal Shelter at ***-9132.

If the owner of the puppies is not located, they will be available for adoption Monday.

OMG.. That just breaks my heart! I hate hearing when people do something so cruel! Poor babies! I hope they find good homes for all of them.

I think it's so sad. We pass this place when we go to town, but it's a private beach...one of a few private beaches in the entire state. So why would they dump them where not so many people go? :cry2: The only reason I can think of is because they knew if it was state owned beach, they would be in big trouble with a larger fine. :cry2:

I saw a re-run of Miami Animal Police the other day, the one where they find a dog and take it to the owners who say its not theirs and they have had the dog registered for years - poor dog. It makes me sick that people can treat their pets like this.
I really cant get over how someone can leave a box of puppies somewhere, what if nobody came to their rescue? Did they think about that?
I went to walk some of the shelter dogs last weekend and there was a dog tied up to the fence, someone had just left their dog there and drove away, poor dog. I wish people needed licenses and house checks to even be considered to own a pet.

How sad for those people to dis own their dog. I think dogs are highly sensitive to things like that and realize what's happening...and to be left tied up to a fence is so sad.

I saw this on the news...( i believe it was the same story)
I get so outraged when I hear these things! How can people be so cruek and cold
hearted towards animals?!? :(
