It's official!!!

Heuser will be showing at the Chihuahua National Specialty Show in Chicago October 1-3...It will be our first time showing at a national level and I am so excited!!! I had to wait to see if I thought he would be up to it and decided that entering would give us both something to work toward in the next month, so entries are in and I'm purchasing our plane tickets on Tuesday (my dad was nice enough to "sponsor" my ticket but we still need to find a way to pay for Heuser's and his health certificate-I'm hoping that the vet bill $ gets hear by then to go ahead and use it for that). He got his first bath yesterday and let me trim his nails and hair between his pads, so we'll start working on the rest of his grooming day by day...Did I mention I am SO excited?!!! It will also be the FIRST time that his breeder has seen him since he was 6 months old and she can't wait either!!! We are entered in the Best of Variety Competition and we'll be showing against all the Chihuahua Champions that have been showing all year, so it will be a GREAT way to see where he ranks against them all. Its also a good way to get our name and his quality out there for other breeders to see, so according to Kim (his breeder), we will probably have atleast a few offers to breed to him by the time we come home-and that would mean either a stud fee, or more importantly to me, the pick of the litter of any of his puppies!!! Gosh, did I mention I was excited? Sorry, I'm so EXCITED, I could go on and on...Matt just made me promise that I wouldn't come home with another chihuahua, we'll see about that!!!

PS-I promise that I'll take TONS of pictures of the hundreds of the chihuahuas, my mom already signed up for the job...and if anyone wants to "sponsor" him, that would be great too, hehehe!!!
PPS-I'm SO EXCITED!!!

Lys, I can't imagine how excited you are for Heuser! I think the part I'd be the most excited about would be pick of the litter! I wish it would be televised so we could see it.

I can totally read the excitement in your typing. LOL. I would be so excited if something like that came about here! Like whoa, showing at a NATIONAL level! That's totally awesome Lys. I hope Heuser's confidence is up and running by the time the shows roll around. I'm so excited for the two of you! How EXCITING! Hehehe, seems that "exciting" is the word of the day.
Please do take TONS Of pictures for us! I'm chi picture deprived. LOL.

I think you made the right decision. Preparing for the show will help H know that things are going to be normal for him again and take his mind off what happened.

I would just be stunned if I was able to be somewhere with that may chihuahuas all in one place. I wouldn't be able to even speak.

I'm sure that H will do very well in his rankings...I can't wait to hear what his breeder thinks of him as a grown up boy.

Do they ever have one of these specialty shows in Manhattan? How would I find out. If they ever do and you are there with H I would make sure to come and see you.

If H stands to stud and you get pick of the litter you will be well on your way to having your very own chi farm going. Good luck, Faye

Just wondering - Can Heuser sit with you on the plane or does he have to go inside down under somewhere???

He goes as a "carry-on" and sits in his soft-sided carrier under the seat in front of me...Usually, the flight attendants allow me to have him on my lap (in his carrier) except during take-off and landings and he charms the whole cabin by the time we get off the flight!
Lys

PS-I would NEVER ship a chihuahua as cargo, nor would I purchase a dog that was shipped to me that way-it is far too dangerous and terrifiying in my opinion for the dog. There are just too many deaths related to improper handling, weather extremes, and suffication due to tight packing around the crate to justify putting a tiny chihuahua through the ordeal.

I can hardly wait for next weekend, I bet Heuser wows them all, he is such a super star! There are just too many deaths related to improper handling, weather extremes, and suffication due to tight packing around the crate to justify putting a tiny chihuahua through the ordeal. Thats so lucky that you get to carry dogs on with you, I wish it were the same deal here. We have very strict air rules and no animals are allowed as "carry-on". I would never take my dogs on a plane as cargo but thats what they do here.
There are many rescue dogs that need transporting to people that will take them or risk being put down so whenever Stephan or I fly we take at least one rescue dog as extra luggage, they are always put in cargo and when they come out they seem fine but im sure its very traumatic for them:cry2:
