Elle came up to me like she always does when she wants to sit on my lap. While I was holding her, she kept lickiing like she was trying to get something out of her mouth. I told her to let me help her. She did just that. I felt something on the inside of her mouth, just near her lips and thought it was a thread with something attached. I pulled and it came out. She wasn't in pain, but I thought I check it out further and felt more, but "it" wouldn't let go! She was still calm while I held the flash light and Terry pulled it...it was a giant ANT!!! I had pulled the back part off, and Terry pulled the center of the body with the legs. Then he carefully pulled the head off, hoping he got the fangs with it. Her mouth is so tiny, it's hard to look in it at the site.
The small picture here is at 100% on a postage size stamp, the big one's at 400% It's a Huge ant, just under a half an inch long. I added the stamp side to give it a more of a real size perspective, but since it's pulled apart, it's a little hare to tell. And it's still moving it's antennea and legs while on the scanner 30 minutes later! eeeek!

I'm watching her close, It's not poisonous, so I'm going to wait to call the vet and see if she has any swelling or cuts where it latched on to her. :-?

Poor little baby. She was so brave to let you get that ant out of her.
Make sure you keep the ant in case you have to show it to the vet. I never saw anything like that in my life. I hate insects. I never used to, I had been a biology major, but now I can't stand any insects. We get bees in the house and I spray as much Raid on them as I can. I really coat the buggers with the stuff. I am suspicious that I am allergic to them and I definintely do not want the cats or dogs getting bit on the mouth or anything either. The other day I went to stand near our front window and there were seven mosquitos INSIDE the screen. I have no idea how they got in. I squished some and sprayed all around. We have West Nile Virus around here and Lyme Disease so I just freaked out. And they just look so ugly too. Pointy little nasty things. YUCK:shock:

Gosh, I feel like putting my stiletto heel right through that ant's head! I am so glad Elle was brave and cooperative! I can't imagine what I would have done because I am a fainter, whenever anything stressful happens. You scanning that ant ---eeek, what a creepy intruder it was.
We have those huge azz "banana" spiders outside on our patio and they totally freak me out. I have to slither past them if I go out my kitchen door, since they look at me, as if to say, "If you want to get to the stairwell, what's the magic word, Lady?"
Arrrgggg!
A quick, painless recovery for little Elle, and lots of nose kisses from her cousins, Cookie and Brownie.

Faye, I saved the ant (pieces). They're all smaller and dried up now. They had even become smaller by the time I took the pictures. LOL I've never been stung, so I don't know if I'm allergic to bees either. That's strange the misquitos came into your house like that. I wonder if they used a vent for a secret entry??? I never thought I'd even be able to touch an ant, let alone tear a bug up while I didn't know what it was, but something happened to me when I knew I had to defend Elle from (((MANT))) HAHA We have a few cases of West Nile Virus close to us too and S. California has it bad. It's on it's way to us. We have screened windows, one customized by puppy Roman, but we don't have screen doors. I'd hate for one of our Club Chi frubabies to get bit by a misquito now!
BTW, We use GE(TM) Anti-insectes, 100w, indoor/outdoor lighting "The porch and patio light that bugs don't see." :)

:funny: hehehe Zoe! Your stiletto heel would have come in handy! haha I'm normally not good with these sorts of things, but since I couldn't see it, only felt it, I knew I had to get rid of this alein in Elle's mouth. yikes! It sounds like your troll spider is straight out of "Billy Goat's Gruff. LOL LOL "Trip trap, trip who's that crossing in my stairwell?" "It is I, Zoe, Cookie and Brownie. Oh huge azz bannana spider. Please let us cross." http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/lachen/laughing-smiley-001.gif
Terri, You're lucky you don't have them, but they're not the worst thing here, in fact, I had no idea they'd greab on like this. I'm looking at everything from a Chihuahuas view from now on! :w00t:LOL

Barb, you were so brave because your maternal instinct kicked in. I could never say this before, but since I have my chi babies I understand how people feel they can lay down their lives for someone they love. I would do anything for Gracie and Sammi Girl. I wouldn't say I was selfish before but I sure never truly felt "selfless". Now I do. They come first before even my own needs and life.
Even if those ant parts shrink up they could still be used to identify the type of ant. But if Elle is ok now she will probably stay that way.
And yes, West Nile Virus started in the U.S. very close to Long Island. My county was one of the first counties in the country to spray. There was a big controversy about spraying and some legal issues for people with respiratory problems. Then the virus gradually began to spread out across the country. I am very careful, I use bug spray and avoid sitting outside when they are biting The county also went through about a year of cleaning up old dumps with old tires with money from the government to cut down on the mosquito breeding areas. There was an old tire dump behind our house and they converted it into a municiple facility and keep it much cleaner now.

Eek! That thing was GINORMOUS!!! Poor Elle, I hope her little mouth feels better soon-what a good puppy for letting mommy and daddy help her!!! We've been having a HUGE problem with spiders in the house lately-our crappy apartment's door and window boxes have spaces between them and the wall, so is like spidermania around here lately-last night, I walked into the bedroom to see a HUGE wolf spider run across Matt's chest (he was sleeping in bed)!!! And today, I was laying down and another little one ran across my pillow!!! There are WAY to many critters sharing our bed lately-like its not full enough with two people and two chihuahuas, lol!!! Gross! I hate bugs!
Zoe-you crack me up!!! I used to be WAY afraid of bugs growing up and through high school, but going away for college taught me lots-there are no dads to "save" you from bugs in your room!!! Even now, I start to freak if I see a bug inside, but have learned that Matt is worse then I am about killing them so I just get a shoe or magazine and get it over with-but I still get the creeps every time!

Elle's fine. Nothing ever happened with it. Ouch! Poor lucky got stung and you're allergic Sharon! Sorry to hear that. I've never been stung.
Faye, Wow! The first county to be sprayed. I've heard about that spraying for West Nile v. Our neighbor has old tires in her yard where misquitos breed. She won't do anything with them or let anyone else, so we change and "treat" the water in them with pool chemicals once in a while when she's not home. LOL That's wrong, I know. LOL
We were put in the position where we couldn't help our Old English Sheepdog while he was swimming in the ocean. It was the most awful feeling in the world to see him struggle back to shore as the tide was going out and the current was strong. All we could do was call and cheer him on to swim. We just don't ever go to the shore line anymore. The undertow is too strong here and just not worth the risk to us after that.
Lys, yep, Elle's coma a long way from not wanting me to dry her head off after a bath to letting me do just about anything now. I was happily surprised to see this sudden change in her and at a good time too.
A wolf spider!!! The name alone is frightening! LOL So did you slap Matt, or let the spider run? haha I slapped Terry on the back of the head once to get a big spider. I didn't have time to tell him it was there and didn't think I'd be able to get it then. LOL It was funny. I had a garter snake in our meat shop. I was home alone and it was in the hallway between the shop and our back apartment. I got a broom and started angrily yelling at it and sweeping it out. Poor snake. LOL I had to muster up the courage to do that since there was no one there to do it for me, and I wasn't about to stay in that big building alone with a snake! :w00t:
