Hi Everyone

Took Casey to a Chi event at Petsmart on the weekend and decided to have her nails cut. (inside at petsmart)
Well, that went ok so we opted for her to have her ears and teeth cleaned too.
Apparently she put up such a stink for the girl that she was unable to get the toothbrush into her mouth.
She brought her out to us and said 'I got more toothpaste on her head than on her teeth'

That night she was shivering and soooo tired she refused treats.
Next day she started her famous screaming..... pick her up she screams....
So I try to feel her ribs - legs - feet - everything that could have gotten hurt or strained in her struggle to get to 'saftey' and she doesn't yelp.
When she realizes we are talking about her she begins to shiver and make her eyes very very sad. She also refuses to walk up the stairs but there is no reason to feel or see when I examine her legs???

I'm pretty sure this is just how she reacts to the stress of nail cutting and toothbrushing because she's done this sort of thing before. Like when a friend tried to mount her - she screamed for days. (It was one of her friends not mine by the way)
Do your Chi's also have a degree in Drama or should I be worried?

Well honestly I'm worried anyway. She's so tiny... But I think she might have pulled a muscle or strained something trying to get away from the girl.
Today is Day 3 and she's sleeping in with the teenager as usual so we'll see how her day goes.

Well, if Casey is the Queen of Drama, then Heuser is the King!!! Although he was injured pretty severely in his attack, it seems that alot of his healing has had to go on in his head. It sounds like Casey is doing a smaller version of what he has been doing for the past two weeks...Not to say that she didn't get hurt, just that they must have been trained by the same acting school, lol! I'd just watch her and as long as she isn't showing any physical signs of trauma (limping, yelping at certain actions, etc.), she is probably associating people with her pain/fear of the nail clipping incident (like Heuser is associating his pain/injuries from me and the vet from touching him). Hope she "forgets" about it soon!

Hi Bev, I hope Casey's alright and feels better soon. Like Lys said, Chihuahuas can get hurt by just restraining them for things like grooming and medical needs. Their little bones can even break. She probably does have a few sore muscles. It takes us forever to clip 30 little toenials, minus dew claws. They can really fight!!! LOL

It sounds like that groomer really gave it her all if Casey was a toothpaste head. :w00t:

To help with our brushing fights, we bought Roman and Elle each a special tooth brush. We let them play with it and chew on it. They hated them for quite a while, but soon grew to love the chicken toothpaste and then finally the brushing.

I started with the smallest amount of toothpaste on the brush, and I was able to quickly touch and give a single brush to one tooth. We tried to do this every day.

Now I can't touch the grooming box without them rushing me, and Sheba always gets to go first since she stresses with her age. She has two Chihuahuas jumping at her screaming, "Do me Do me next!!!":w00t: LOL

Oh, and Roman and Elle must know Casey and Heuser from the drama school of acting!!! haha I posted in health forum in the throwing up post about them--They sure can scream!!!

Hugs to Casey!!!

Hi Guys Here she is sitting on my lap..

Ok I can't re-size the picture dang.........Well she won't walk upstairs herself and she's pitiful. She stopped yelping when I pick her up but the stair refusal thing is worrying me.
I hope she's better tomorrow. She did eat well tonight. I hope Heuser is feeling better. Thanks Barb I will give her the toothbrush they gave her and see if she will play with it.
