Just wanted to let you guys know how little Heuser is doing. His body continues to heal more and more each day, but we can tell that he is still really sore (although I hate to admit that his lumpy little body is kind of cute). He still screams every time we go near him and it is a struggle to pet or hold (which we're unable to do yet) him. But we did have the best day so far in terms of seeing a little bit of his personality return and it has gotten ALL of us in higher spirits. He heard me ask Tally if she would like to go outside and then when Matt went to let her out a few minutes later, Heuser jumped at the chance to go to. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea because we can't get near him or touch him but other than not wanting us to be too close, he listened to all the commands he has known since he was a puppy and even walked halfway to the mailbox with us (its a big grassy field). Tally was SO happy and excited that her H was with us that she TOTALLY DORKED out and started running circles and stuff-she has NEVER done that before-it was SO special!!! Of course, when we came back in, she bumped him coming through the door and he freaked out-I distracted him with the offer for a Greenie and he actually came over to get it (its like feeding a squirrel at the park-he has to be lured over a tiny bit at a time). He is tired out right now and resting in the other room but it has made our whole weekend! I can only hope that this is the tip of the iceburg and our Heuser will come around-and you guys have really pulled me through-thank you so much!
Lys
PS-Tally is showing this weekend and although she hasn't gotten any points, has shown well against very stiff competition. There is also someone interested in breeding to Heuser and the bitch is absolutely gorgeous! We'll see! Oh, and a friend of mine kept trying to get me to take a little 4 month old long coat, fawn and white boy to work with and then tried to tempt me by offering me a little smooth coat girl who is red-fawn and just adorable supposedly-I had to turn the offer down for now since the most important thing is to get Heuser over this whole incident, but it sure was tempting!

That H wanted to go out is such a good sign. He is a smart boy taking things at his own pace. I'm sure he will let you hold him again when he learns that it won't hurt him once he is healed more. What a special response from Tally. I am learning not to be surprised at the depth of emotion that dogs are capable of exhibiting toward people and other dogs. Obviously Tally knew that this was a big step for H and she had been missing his friendship. Thank you so much for the good news. I know there will be more good news to share as each day goes by. Love,

Lys, It's good to hear Heuser's slowly on the mend. I can't imagine the bruising he sustatined around the punture wounds; I'm sure he can't wait until he's able to cuddly with you again too.

I really felt so much joy when you shared Tally's enthusiastic response of H's venture outside. Little by little, our H is coming back to being the most fabulous Big Boy chihuahua in all of Kansas City! I know, with your encouragement, and Tally's running circles around him, H will soon be more himself. What happened--his injuries-- makes me upset, but I'm glad the silver lining on this cloud, is his healing, his participation and involvement with his family. Please, when you are able to give him a tender kiss, let him know it's a long-distance dedication from his adoring girlfriend, Cookie.

Dear Friends,
I am feeling better and better each day and am going outside to potty and even crawling under the covers (but only after mommy and daddy leave the bedroom). I am still pretty sore and do NOT like to be touched but I am thinking about wanting to be pet again, its just so scary that I start crying if I even think anyone is going to touch me. I did like kisses last night and as long as she doesn't move fast, will let mommy touch my ears and head-just nothing farther, it still hurts! Tally definately likes being the "only" child since I can't go anywhere right now but hopefully soon, I'll be back to #1 chihuahua in our house...Mommy still cries at night when I don't act like myself and don't do the things that I have done since I was a puppy, but I am trying very hard and I don't like to see her sad. Daddy isn't home this week and I tried sleeping in bed with Mommy and Tally for the first time last night! Hrmph! Those two are bed-hogs and wouldn't quite moving around so I decided to go to my bed instead, but atleast I tried! Thank you all for your kisses and wishes sent my way, Mommy says thank you too! Mommy also wanted to say that the legal issues should be over soon (it looks like those mean doggies' owner is going to pay everything) so she can tell you how/what happend so it never happens to any of you!!! I would hate that!!! Well, I'm a little tired, so I will talk to you later!
Love,
Heuser

Dearest Heuser, Thank you so much for getting on Club Chi and telling us all how you are doing. I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better and trying hard to be the way you were before. Your Mommy is only crying because she loves you so much and wants you to be all better. Gracie and Sammi Girl send you a million puppy kisses and can't wait until I can tell them you are back to your old self again.

Hey Lys, it's wonderful to hear that H is slowly but surely progressing. Time is such a healing process isn't it? I am just so glad to hear that H had such a wonderful day by walking halfway to the mailbox, and just being excited over going outside. Contiued prayers for little Heuser.
