I've always let the H2's kind of decide when they want in the pool. They will usually stand at the side and wait for me, then I'm always very careful to let them know they can trust Mommy to not abandon them. I always craddle their little belly with my hands and let them swim. They can swim on their own, but I never let them swim very far. Our pool doesn't have an easy exit for them so I want to always be around when they are in the pool.
They do seem to love it when it's really hot outside, they enjoy a refreshing dip in the water or love to lay out on the raft with me... course that usually means I have a
'Chihuahua tan line'. LOL

Do you have a special place you plan on taking her to swim? A pool? :) That's great you have such warm water and warm enough for a Chi to swim in.
We used to let our big dogs swim in the ocean and river, but since Chi's temperature drop very fast (due to their small size), we won't let them even try in our water temps here. They would need wet suits. LOL ;-) Roman and Elle love their little pool with a couple inches of warmed water that they can splash in if they choose.
You probably wouldn't have to spend twenty dollars on Doggles for her just for swimming since you would be right there by her side, unless you want them for Roxi's fashion statement. I think the life jacket's a great idea. My sister's dog had one for when we'd go out on their boat in the Willamette River.

That sounds like such a nice place for Roxi to swim. http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-106.gif
$8.00 for Doggles! :w00t: They're usually $30 here, but I've just found them for $20.

I want to get some Doggles for Roman because he loves to look out the open window in the car...ONLY when we're coming home through the state park going no faster than 20 mph...not while we're on the highway or streets. But I won't let him because he could lose an eye. Doggles would be great for that.http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/mini/small-smiley-018.gif
