Here they are checking out the WARNING BEARS!!! sign on one of the picnic tables.

Elle is reading the directions out loud to Roman and Sheba on what to do if a bear approaches, while Sheba and Roman diligently keep watch for the bears.

We love the warm sand! Too hot! :angryblo: Too hot! :angryblo: With Sheba being so old and Roman and Elle so close to the ground, they can only stand about a minute in the sand and then in the sun. We've had to pack Sheba back to the car lately and the little ones as well, and this is even when the temp. is 51'F and sunny. :angryblo:

The Hot Foot pic is so funny. Sheba looks like she thinks you must be crazy to even want to go to the beach let alone stand in the sand.

The reading pic is a hoot and Elle sure has grown so much since the last pics. She looks stunning.

Thanks guys. I'm glad you liked them. http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/mini/small-smiley-018.gif There's a wooden sidewalk way out to the dunes. It's really for wheelchair access, but the dogs love it. Here, Elle has taken about a dozen steps off the walk and she's pooped and hot. LOL Her mouth is never open like that. course I'm sure my mouth is open here at this spot too because I'm always looking over my shoulder for bears when we're that far away from the car...like there's anything we could do about it anyway! haha We saw some people walk up to a small 200 pound bear at this spot so they could get a good picture of it from just 30 feet away! :w00t:

If I was close enough to a bear to see it without binoculars I would be running in the other direction or curled up on the ground in a fetal position sucking my thumb and praying at the same time. Oh my...:cry2:

What kind of bears are you talking about? The biggest animal on Long Island is probably deer in the less developed areas. They have a lot of bears in NJ and upstate NY but not down here on Long Island. We do get rabid raccoons and bats though.

Faye, I'm with you on the fetal position. LOL We have Black Bears all over here. They are mean compared to brown/grizzley bears--that's what we think anyway. Black bears are far more likely to do the stalk-charge-hunt than a normal brown bear, not to mention they run at 30 mph...just a bit faster than us! LOL Their attacks come from just (((wanting))) people, while the male brown bear mainly attacks because people get too close to where the mom and cubs are, although we haven't heard of any local attacks since 1983. So maybe the people we saw snapping pictures knew the black bear wouldn't attack during the photo shoot. LOL We reported it to the ranger station and the lady said, "Oh, we know that bear...he's back again?" We thought, "Who does she think it is, Yogi and Boo Boo?"

I often have thoughts to move just due to these bears. I used to become paralyzed with fear while back packing in the 70's and then day hikes in the 80's and 90's with Terry. We have since given this up. Two years ago, one broke into a house and went right to the cereal cupboard like it had been there before! Well, now I"m taking the garage and car keys to bed with me tonight. LOL LOL I have so many stories from my college forestry class and other times. Yikes. I do not like bears!

Well I'm glad to hear that there have been no local attacks since 1983 but the words bear + house + inside just doesn't add up to normal for me.;-) I'll stay down here with the rabid raccoons any day.
