Lucky for a few days now has been licking at his right front paw till no end....usually when he does this it means his nails need to be cut...so i took him yesterday and had his nails cut and the hair around his paws trimmed...well he was still licking last night so i was looking at his front right paw...and all in between his pads is beat tomato red....
so i called the vet today which now is my favorite vet its the one in NH that has been seeing Lucky since he was 10 weeks old !!! said to bring him right in....so he has an appoinment today at 3pm...will let you all know what was wrong when i get back from the vets office....

Lucky has an infection in his right paw...and a small tiny pussy bubble on one of his small pads...so he is on an antibiotic 2 times a day for 7 days and a bentadine solution that i have to soak his foot in 2 times a day for 5 minutes...hes not a happy chihuahua today...LOL
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that poor Lucky has a boo-boo. I hope the meds help and he is back prancing around soon.

Oh no. I hope Lucky's feeling better soon. Things like this can really get a little dog like Lucky down. Chi hugs to him for a fast recovery.

Have you tried putting them in a yummy treat like liversausage? Are they hard powder or caplets? If you can pound them down to a powder, you can dilute it in water and use a syringe (without the needle of course) to shot it into the back of his mouth.

I think it's too bad it has to be a time release capsule.
What I've done is softened cheese into putty-like stage and started getting my pups excited with that they're getting treats. Hve a buch of cheese balls ready. The first two are just empty cheese, the then thrid one has the pill. Then have two or three more bits ready to fire excitedly at Lucky.

Oh Lucky... hope your paw gets better soon! Be a good boy and take your meds for Mommy! How does he like having his paw soaked for five minutes? I bet that's hard to do?

well the vet called in a perscription for a liquid med instead of the pills so now i give him his med through a syringe...but its cherry flavored so he likes it...so no problems anymore...
Renata....he doesn't mind his foot being soaked...he usually just lays on the table and lets me hold his paw in there....but sometimes he moves alot and its hard to keep his paw in there...
also he keeps licking at his paw...which the vet said he CAN'T DO...so now he has to wear one of those dome shaped collars WHICH HE HATES...WHEN I HAVE IT ON HIM HE ACTS AS IF HE IS PARALIZED AND WILL NOT MOVE...HE JUST STANDS THERE AND PUTS HIS HEAD FACING THE FLOOR.....LOL...SO I ONLY PUT IT ON HIM WHEN HE STARTS LICKING HIS PAW SO MAYBE HE WILL LEARN NOT TO LICK HIS PAW AND HE WON'T HAVE TO WEAR IT
I'm glad he likes his meds now! I think that should work with the satelite dish thingy. We have the Bitter Apple stuff to put on Lu's paws when he won't leave them alone and all we have to do is show him the bottle now and he stops instantly. LOL

I'm so glad you were able to get some liquid for him Sharon. Those queen anne collars must embarrass him to bits. Poor Lucky. I hope he doesn't have to wear that for too long. Chi hugs to lucky.

Sharon, Has it popped or become smaller yet? Or maybe it's just going to dry up? How long does he have to wear the collar?
That's so cool Lucky's back at his 'ol stomping grounds where he went to the vet as a puppy! It's important to like your vet. We love ours--there's a lot of good ones closer than ours (who's over 100 miles away) but for now, we love their vet and will keep driving to where we used to live for our babies to see him. (of course not for emergencies) Sheba's gone to him for almost 14 years now, so we know how happy you must be to take Lucky there again.
Did you have to pay for both the pills and the liquid medicine?

bentadine solution was $12.00

Thanks for the update Sharon. I've been so worried about my nephew Lucky. Things like this can seem so minute, but with a little dog, they can make them ill so quick. I hope he's OK. I think your vet bill shows how important it was he went. You're such a good Chi mommie!!! Give Lucky Chi hugs from his cousins in California  Please keep us updated on the little guy!

Happy Healthy Dog: PRICELESS!!!!
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know the feeling.
I hope he is doing better soon. Have you called the vet and asked them about it, maybe they thought it would have popped by now? Poor baby, I hope it gets better soon. That is such a good boy to take his meds AND let mommy soak his foot, good boy Lucky!!!
