Oh My! Today I was out in the lake with Kishi on the air matress. She was in the water on the matress so she wasn't overheated. She hasn't been exactly herself lately but nothing too out of the usual, just mopey. Well, while she was on the matress with me she started holding her head straight up like she did the last time quite a few months ago when I had to rush her into emergency. By this time the internet guy pulls into my driveway to fix my internet problems (Arrrghhh, another story). As I was trying to get out of the water she started yelping, I put her on the ground and she fell over stiff and yelped at the top of her lungs. I picked her up and called my vet 2 minutes before they closed. I had to get rid of the internet guy and get her into the car. I wrapped a towel around her since she was wet and on the way to the vet she threw up on it. I got her in there and she was trying to be herself but just couldn't. The doc pressed all along her spine and she didn't cry. Last time she cried when the doc pressed between her shoulder blades. So they gave her a steriod shot and a double dose of nausea medicine. She asked if I wanted to leave her overnight or bring her in the morning and of course I said in the morning. Then they all started thinking that it was possibly a seizure! So they demanded that I leave her there for the night and come by at 8 in the morning. I am so worried about her. Has anyone else experienced this? Sharon, I know you had some problems with Lucky a while back, does this sound like what happened to him?

Oh Mandi! http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/cry002.gifI'm so sorry you have to go through this. It sounds so frightening. My first Sheba had seizures. She was diagnosed with kidney problems. She had them for a year or two, and it was always awful. They were often brought on by stress or excitement, like being around kids, or just knowing she was going to the beach, which she loved, but still excitement. She never made any noise with them though, but would stiffen up--even stay standing against the back seat of the car through them. She would throw up too. Sorry I'm of no help with information, but wanted to say I'm sorry and that I'm keeping you all in my prayers for Kishi's recovery.

Thank you so much Barb. I have been really worried today, my aunt and cousins came over today so that kept my mind off of it until they left and then of course I called my Mommy! Gage works nights now and I talked to him a minute ago and he is really worried too. He went by the vet to see if anyone was there with her and there was no one. I really hope they aren't seizures or if they are that we can definetly diagnose her with some tests, I would hate to go through another illness like Lu's where there are no definite answers. Thank you so much, you guys are the BEST!!!!

Mandi...Lucky did have a seizure awhile back but has not had one since....but he didn't yelp and he didn't fall over....he just stood there shaking and gasping for air...but he was stiff ..and it took me forever to get his mouth open....but i think all dogs are different when it comes to seizures so it could very well be what Kishi had....just acted different to it

I don't know anything about seizures but I hope that what happened to Kishi is minor. I'll keep checking back here to see updates.

Thanks so much guys! I went to see her this morning before work. The vet told me that she had actually taken her home with her over the night b/c she was still not acting herself when she left. She said that she threw up on the way there and she gave her another dose of meds. She said that she eventually started perking up but peeing a lot due to the steriod shot she gave her.
When I saw her she was happy but not "Kishi happy". I asked the vet what she thought it was and she thinks that the lake water may have been why she was throwing up but the pain, yelping, and falling over was not from that. She said it is very possible that it was a seizure but she doesn't put them on meds unless they are having them monthly. She took a blood test today before Gage picked her up and we don't have the results yet. She is going to test her kidneys and liver in about 2 weeks after all the meds are out of her system. She said that it isn't uncommon for younger dogs to have seizures do to liver problems. Something like before they were born their mother's liver produces the fluids needed for them and some puppies do not recieve it from the mother. When they are born and the umbilical cord is cut, the puppies body is supposed to take over and some puppies don't. Ok, that is really hard to explain b/c I don't even quite understand it but she is going to test it soon. I will keep you all updated on it.
Kishi is still not quite herself at all tonight. She stays right next to me and is kind of mopey. She is definetly not feeling too well. The only med she is on now is for the nausea, and we are only to give it to her if she throws up again and then 4 hours after again.
I hope they find what is wrong with her, I am very worried. She is always so happy and healthy, it hurts me that my little girl is not feeling herself.

Thanks guys. I called the vet today to ask them if she is still supposed to be moping around. The receptionist said that they were at lunch and would have the doc call me back, she never did. I just got home a little bit ago and she is still mopey. She just isn't herself, she looks as though she is going to throw up at any moment. I have been looking around the house to see if she has and haven't found anything. So sad.

Any news on Kishi's condition? Does the vet have any idea what is causing her symptoms? Is she doing any better? I'm worried about your little girl!

Kishi is doing better now and acting more like herself. I could never get the vet, which is odd b/c they have always returned my calls. She is a little slow tonight but overall much better. I am still going to take her in to have her liver and kidneys checked in about a week and a half though. Kishi just hasn't been Kishi 100 percent and it worries me. Thanks so much for the support guys! Kishi loves you all!!

Ok guys. Kishi was and is doing ok, but still not KISHI! She is pretty mopey still around the house although she will squeek her toys throughout the house still. She doesn't play as much and HAS to be right under mine or Gage's feet all hours of the day and night. And this is the worrisome part... she has been following us around the house and right in front of us pee on the floor with no warning! She knows to go to the door or bark or something, it is like she is doing it on purpose, I don't know what is wrong. At first when she did this I thought it was from the steriod shot that she got and couldn't hold it but that has been a while now. She knows it is wrong b/c she will instantly put her ears and head down, tuck her tail and walk away ashamed. I have to call the vet again and see if we can get those tests on her kidneys and liver done soon.

my grandmothers dog did this ( pee on the floor right in front of you when she knows how to ask to go out )

anyhow we found out that she was severe diabetic...everything you have described about her is exactly how Princess acted...you might want to ask your vet to do a sugar count and stuff on her...good luck....hope she feels better soon

Kishi went in this morning for her blood test. Gage had to take her. She was supposed to go on Monday and I completely forgot to take her in at 8:30am, so I called and thank goodness I did. I didn't know that we had to withhold water and food the night before, so she went in today and they will call me when the results are in.
