Excessive Shedding

Over the last few weeks, Loppi has been shedding A LOT! By a lot, I mean that it is comparable to my friend's American Eskimo! Everytime I brush her, the brush ends up all covered in fur. If I hold her even for a few seconds, my shirt will come out infested with fur! I've seen her shedding style last year and it has never been this bad. I'm adding omega fatty acids oil to her food, but a lack of fatty acids doesn't seem to be the problem. Does anyone know what's going on?

It sounds like Loppi's just getting her summer coat. As I look at my black T-Shirt, I have a lot of Chi hair on it. http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/lachen/laughing-smiley-001.gif Our car gets filled with dog hair too. Daily brushings are good during this time. Some say the dogs get used to the regular brushing and then expect it. I think that's ok by me! :w00t:

I find keeping clothes on Roman helps keep it off of me. T-shirts and wraps work great during this warmer time of year. :dance:

Added: I've been searcing the internet for excessive shedding and all I could find was some dogs really do shed a lot, but if it's a concern, to check with you vet for underlying problems.

I'm going to make an appointment for her sometime this week to check the vet. I want her teeth to be checked to see if she needs a dental cleaning and she also has a red spot near her left back leg. Looks like a mosquito bite to me but it's been there for a while now.. she hasn't been scratching it so hmm. Anyway, it's a relief to know that all this shedding is normal. It's been scaring me because the amount of hair she loses daily is HUGE. I remember last year's shedding.. it wasn't this bad. Does it have anything to do with the fact that it was just her first shedding?

Lucky is a long coat also..and he sheds alot too..specially now that summer is here he is loosing most his coat to stay cool

OH, I know about this too!! Lucius has NEVER EVER shed as bad as this year. He is a long haired chi but he never had to have regular brushing do to matting, etc. until now. He sheds like crazy now and his hair also mats now. I think we have finally gotten through the worst of it but he still has a lot of undercoat that is still shedding.
