I have a basic computer question... I know I'd be laughed off a computer forum, and I've tried to find it on my own with no luck. Maybe someone here will know. :?: :?: :?:

I'm sure this happens to a lot of people because my HP manual says what to do if it happens, but
What causes it and/or can I fix it?

I'll be surfing on the internet just fine and then all of a sudden, NOTHING will click...ON, OFF, close a page, go back, and I can't even sign off, or turn the computer off.

For example, every single time I go to eBay, I get on to the main page. Then I click, lets say, "Chihuahua." I get the Chihuahua item list, find what I want to look at and then my entire computer freezes up! I can't even turn it off with "ctrl, alt, delete"--I get the "end now box" so I have to stick a paper clip in the back of my laptop.

Another example of where that happens an awful lot is when I use the top bar where I can enter frequently used places. I'll click certain thing and then it will freeze up.

This used to happen once in a while, but not 50 times a day. It seems like ever since I've installed Zone Alarm it's acting up even more...just not sure if that's a coincidence or not. Even when I turn off ZA, it still happens. Thank you to anyone who knows the answer.

I've reset my art database and added 5 megabytes to it, so maybe that's been the problem. :? I'll see. So far so good. http://pages.prodigy.net/indianahawkeye/newpage09/3.gif

Hi Barb! I have that exact same problem. I try to press the CTRL ALT DLTE button too and that doesn't even work sometimes! So I end up just shutting the whole power bar off! Lately I haven't been able to shut the computer down without doing that, or if I can shut it down the proper way it takes ages. LOL. How is your computer working now?

I had that when I went to a particular site. Someone else had that same problem at that site too. It has something to do with the site and some "scripting" problem with the code at that site. I didn't understand what that was so I just stopped shopping there. I'll ask her again. But you could e-mail the webmaster at e-bay and tell them what is happening and they may know what the problem is.

JenJen, I waited several hours to see how it went; it's still doing it. I ran a maintainence check, got rid of stored "artwork" whatever that is  , and now will get rid of old stored email, unintall used up game trials, and then run a defrag.

Thank so much for the information Faye. It is always the same sites where it happens too. I'll just not go to those for now and see what happens. Luckily, Club Chihuahua's not doing that--I would be totally flipping out if I couldn't get on here! :w00t: I can live without eBay. But I'll email the webmaster there--I didn't know I could do that. Thanks!

I have a CACHE & COOKIE WASHER CD too, but it says "not to use it unless I'm familiar with cookies it removes certain information from your computer, and recommends I check the Standard Wash Directories and familiarize myself with Cache and Cookie Washer's setting and options BEFORE 'running a wash". HAHA If they're not chocolate chip, I don't know them!

Boy oh boy... I could be here permanently! My computer has been acting up something awful! I wasn't able to log on to the internet for five days! Talk about withdrawals!!! It's really been bad since we installed new firewalls, I finally took the firewall down. I have a friend who is a computer tech that is going to come over on Saturday to help me with everything. I don't understand computer lingo and wouldn't know where to begin on explaining everything.

Hmm...Firewall. I had my Zone Alarm set on high, so I just moved it to medium. I'll try it that way. It says I can be seen in this mode. See me???? haha j/k

It's amazing everyone who want into our computers, but maybe it's not all bad. :?

Sandy, I'm glad you have our computer wizzard back. Can I borrow her? LOL I don't want to pay the neighbor kid $40.00 again. I thought he knew a lot until he jumped and said, ""Wow! your computer talks? " LOL

Sandy,
Please don't refer to my loving chihuahua as you did!
:angryblo: :angryblo:

I did that cookie thing 1 time

Cookie is NOT a THING!!!!!!

Hahahahahahhahaha! That gave me a giggle! I love ya, and I'm kidding, but it strikes me as funny everytime someone talks about Cookie when dealing with computers. I never made the connection between Cookie and Cookie until after I named my dollbaby!
