Greetings. I'm a new member and have lurked for a litle while.
Seems like a lot of experience and dogie love here.
I'm not great at forums but would like to give this a try, My problem is that my sweet lovable chi is turning on his friends. Not his human friends....the other four legged critters that have been a part of his life since day 1.I'm not sure how to handle it. He goes nuts if another pet of our clan even wants to enter the room.
So far what I've been doing is ..calmly picking him up and saying to him that he needs to chill....while taking him to his outdoor run. I bring him back in after a few mins and things are OK for a SHORT time. Hubby says that's the way ALL male chis are and that I should get used to it. Hard for me to believe.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I love my doglet and want him to be happy.
Thanks
Karina

Hi Karina, welcome to CC.
I am sorry to hear that your little boy is acting out.
I was wondering how old he is.
I dont think picking him up is a good idea if he is acting out. It tends to reinforce his behaviour, because he thinks that you picking him up is favouring him. Rather call him to a time out spot and do this everytime he acts up. Also reward and praise him when he is being friendly to them, make a big deal about it, the more attention he gets when he is being well behaved the better. Remember that chi's are like children, any attention is good attention.
so reinforce his good behaviour and ignore his bad, in the sense of putting him in a time out and not talking to him when he is in the time out.
I am no expert so this is just something i have tried with my boy. He didnt like children at all and any child that would approach him or even look in his direction got a snap. picking him up and holding him was putting him on my level and reinforcing his authority over them.
Hope this helps, at least a little.
Regards

I have also heard this.
But my Gordy isnt neutered and he isnt aggressive. i mean he will bark at strangers but just sniff them. The only time he will bite is if i am holding him around a stranger and that stranger tries to touch him.

Hi and welcome to the forums. I would suggest making sure they eat and sleep seperately. Also, when he is aggressive, say "NO", or "BAD", and ignore him. I hope that helps!
