Calming Music For Dogs While You Are Out

I was watching ABC News and they showed this product. It is a collection of music designed to calm dogs while they are alone in the house. The company started with a video called While You Are Gone. I don't know anything about the video. The company played different music to dogs and noted what parts of the music calmed them and then wrote music along those lines.

The tv reporter showed this group of dogs in a room in a shelter. They were being very active, running and playing with each other. Then they played the music. The person in the room did not do anything or say anything or direct the dogs at all. After a little while EVERY dog got quiet and they got down and rested while they listened to the music. Some of them even fell asleep on their backs. You could see them enjoying it.

The CD is called Music Dogs Love: While You Are Gone. They have it on Amazon. I am thinking of getting it in the spring and playing it all day while I am at work. I know that Sammi and Happy will bark more when the windows are open in the warm weather and my new apartment is closer to the street and they can hear more people walking by and talking. This makes them bark.

It was amazing to see the dogs lie down and relax all on their own. I am going to try it. I will let you all know how it works.

I wonder if it really works! I'd love to know that when I am gone, instead of Ronin chewing up our sofa, he could actually be relaxing to "Dog Nose Wonder". Please Faye, let us know how your babies like it! I love the song titles!

Well, I will buy it very soon and let you all know. Jen Jen, they said people like it too maybe it will relax you after your surgery! Lee Anne it isn't just copies of people music, they went for specific tones that seemed to sooth the dogs. It is actual compositions made for the disk.

we just leave the TV on to some cartoons because thats what we usually watch here (2 and 1yr olds LOL) And Oscar has done just fine :) Let me know how the music works for you gals!

Okay Faye, when you get it, please let us know how it goes! Would be fantastic if you could set up your puter so we could watch them while you're gone and then do another run with the music to see if it works!!

I'll definitely consider it for after my surgery! Anything to help me relax.

Sounds neat with all the right mixes of sounds to keep them listening. I can't wait to hear how it works. :) I'd have to get something like this because Roman's favorite songs that quiet him in the car are rock songs, "Boris The Spider" by The Who and "Things Are Getting Better Now" by Collective Soul. Elle's favorite song that stops her in her tracks is "Love Shack" by the B52's, and I don't think that one would be a good one to play in our house all day when we are gone. :lol:

Interesting. I am going to check this out myself. Right now I leave Nickelodeon on for my two. BUT I have no clue what they do all day. It would be cool to set up a video to see what they do when Nickelodeon is on AND then when the CD is playing. I am going to look into this too! Thanks Faye!

Let us know if it does you any good... i went shopping for like 40minutes today and upon my return my entire place was under confetti or shredded things!
How at ease i will feel knowing they are chilling and not detroying

OK, I am ordering it today. I will get the video cam out and take a vid before I play it and while I am playing it as an experiment. Because I live in an apartment I need the music to be people friendly while it is playing. Who knows maybe it will calm me down when I feel stressed.

I would love a cam set up as well so I could see what they do all day.

Very cool. Sometimes I leave the television on Animal Planet for my Chihuahuas while I'm gone.
