/vent on

For lunch I decided to go to the Girl Scout Council to buy the patches and pins I owe my troop. On the way there...I got a speeding ticket :( It's my first one ever. The officer had two cars already pulled over and he waved me over too - I had no clue what was going on. Anyway, I guess I was going 35 in a 15 (school zone) and he wrote the ticket for 20 in a 15. I had just turned onto this street from another and there were no flashing lights anywhere :( My court date is the day before my 31st bday.

:cry2:

In Ontario...for 20 over, KPet would have gotten 3 demerit points...which is BAD. Bringing the ticket down to 20, she wouldn't have lost any. At 9 points, your licence is suspended and you go to trial and could have your licence suspended for 2 years.
I don't know how it works everywhere else...but thats how it is here!

make sure you go to the court date - dress really conservative.. (i'm serious)

I wore a long skirt, a sweater set and glasses... with my hair up - I looked like teacher... along those lines.

Then you can do 1 of 2 things- you can plea guilty and pay the fine... or even settle for a lesser violation and pay a lower fine...

OR

fight it, say not guilty, then they will go to trial - provided you have a clean record- you'll prob get off... you see the cop will have to show up for the trial, and if he/she doesnt it's dismissed...

how can he/she recall the difference btween all 3 people he/she pulled over?

The 1st ticket I ever got, i got pulled over by 2 police officers and they wanted to make "an example" out of me... I had only had my new car for less than 12 hours... hahaha.. I was high on life, happy bcs I HAD A CAR! lol... anyway, they tried to give me all kinds of fees... I fought it, spoke to the court clerk (I think) he asked me how long I have been a lic'd driver, if I had ever been cited before - I had been a driver for at least 10 yrs- with no violations, then he noticed that it was 15 over the speed limit- and was surprise dthey didnt give me a break- long story short, all I had to do was make a donation to a charity...

another time, I also fought the ticket- the court was so backed up with dates, the trial was shecduled 2 yrs later- and of course the officer never showed so it was dimissed.

Fight it, you might be able to reduce it or get out of it...

I agree with Devilisha! Not sure if it works the same everywhere but that's pretty much how it works here in Hawai'i. What a bummer that you got pulled over. :(

I've been pulled over twice luckily both times I drove away without a ticket. Phew!

Well, it looks like since it was in a 15 mph school zone I am required to show up at court. I'm hoping that since this is my first and ONLY ticket EVER that maybe they'll let me take the driver class and pay a lesser fine. I really didn't notice that it was a school zone - this area is unfamiliar to me - plus there were no kids out. Usually there is a sign that tells what times the school zone is in effect. I'm very tempted to retrace my steps and take pictures.

you should re-trace, and if there's no signage, make sure you bring that up, IF they try and slam you for it.

I hope it all works out for you, you might not be in a bad situation since it's your first and only... tickets stink... and thankfully i've gotten out of mine- I even calle din a favor once! lol (it's good to know cops or firemen)

I think its a good idea to retrace your steps and check for that signage.
They cannot hold you liable if they did not advise you about it! ie no signage, no crime!

Good luck and i hope that this all works out for you! holding thumbs, there is nothing fun about being ticketed.
