Sammi Girl and Happy Boy are exclusively pee pad trained. They go on pads that have trays. The trays have pee pads all around them. I have the trays in the living room near their crates. Sometimes there is pee on my wooden floor. It is very hard to keep up with. I am thinking of moving one pee pad tray to the bathroom and training them to use that instead. This way it would be much easier to wash the floor if they missed the tray. But Sammi is 7 years old already and the bathroom is very very far from where they are used to peeing.

What do you think?

I am sure some one once said something about teaching old dogs new tricks!
Not sure if this will work for you.
I moved Gordy's bed the a few weeks ago, from under my desk to under our stairs and he was very confused. even now when I tell him to go to bed, he runs to the old place to look for it before remembering that it has been moved.
I dont know if this helps at all, but it might be best not to move them, at least not far away from where they are used to going. I dont know if its just Gordy but he seems to suffer memory loss... he gets into a routine and them it becomes second nature to him. So i try not to change things around. He knows where his food is, where his bed is and where he goes potty! He is confident in that and never second guesses it!

Is it possible to move it 1 foot at a time? When I was reading about transitioning from pad to outside, the advice was to move the pad...little by little until it gets to the spot you want it. Maybe as it gets further away from it's current spot, reward for doing their business in the new spot?

I recently moved the pad / litterbox that Kimi had been using from my guest room all the way down the hall into my study. He knew where it was, but would often times go to his old spot out of habit. After shutting the door to the guest room for a few weeks, it hasn't been a problem since.

So I'd say move it, make sure they know where it is, and make getting to the old place not an option for awhile.

If it's real far from the old spot, Sammi may not take to it. You could try and see how she does.

I move Lexie's potty pad here and there, but only around in my room.

Let us know how it goes. :)

This is what I did with Lola, and worked like a charm- just make sure you show them where it is :)
