Hi Jen Jen, I wanted you to know we will be thinking of you while Hurricane Flossie is in the Islands. Good luck and stay safe. Let us know how you get on with it when you are able to.

Thanks Barb!! It's still a ways away from the Hawaiian Island chain, hopefully it breaks apart before it reaches us. Should pass through/hit us next Tuesday.
They said hurricanes usually actually hit us around every 10-15 years. 2007 would be the 15th. year since Hurricane Iniki. It actually affected us Sept. 10-11, not a great day in history. That one devastated the islands with 2.3 billion dollars in damage, even tore the roof off our porch and flung it into a ditch. Hurricane Iwa was in '82, I was in my mom's belly for that. But from what I hear, that one was pretty bad to.
I hope we do okay, I hope it falls apart once it reaches our cooler waters. But anything can happen. They tell us to take shelter, go to higher ground, etc. etc. right, 'cause there's a lot of that when you're on an island!!
Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts.

JenJen,
Hope you stay safe and this hurricane breaks apart. Is your home far enough away from the coast that you can stay in your home?

Renata, not too sure what you mean by "coast". The beach is 1/2 mile from my house if that means anything.
So Flea, I guess I shouldn't ask what it means when a gal's seasoned, huh?

OMG, I began to work in the Library in 1982. I guess I'm well seasoned too. LOL
Yeah, like where are you supposed to go in a hurricane. I live two miles from the Atlantic Ocean. They tell us we would have to drive 12 miles to be safe from a big one. And of course none of the shelters they tell us about takes dogs. :-x

Stud barn? Okay, I can see where you're going with that one. I'll use that phrase, it's funny. haha.
In my town I don't think you could get too far away from the beach, maybe 3 miles at most. I guess it's kinda like that everywhere around here. LOL.
And yes, no doggies allowed at shelters, which is sad. I think that's why there are a lot of people who get stranded. Animals are not just animals to many, they're a member of the family.

Yep, that is why many people stayed in their homes during hurricane Katrina. I will never for get these two guys that I saw interviewed on tv after the hurricane. When the Coast Guard came to rescue them from the roof of their house they had two suitcases and two chihuahuas. The guy told them they could take the suitcases or the dogs but not both. They dropped the suitcases with all their important papers inside and grabbed the dogs and went up to the helicopter in those basket things. All they had left in the world was those two dogs. They said they could replace ANYTHING else but the dogs.

"The hurricane was supposed to weaken considerably before brushing Hawaii. But now forecasters expect a Category 3 hurricane, wind at 140 mph (one hundrend and forty!) with sustained wind of at least 111 mph, to pass the islands." News
JenJen, You are in our prayers!!!

Thanks Barb!!
Yeah, they thought once it hit cooler waters it would be downgraded, they thought at most a category 1 hurricane or a very strong tropical storm. Now it's looking like it may stay at a category 3. This is sooo not good.

Thanks for thinking of us, everyone! Still not much change, just a little windy is all. Guess we'll find out tomorrow afternoon.
Renata, other than the fact we're indoors, our house doesn't give any kind of added safety from the storm. But sometimes, that's all you need. :D
