As some of you know, I love running. I took it up almost two years ago after being fed up with my weight. Well, I'm bummed because now, I can't run. I went to see a doctor (finally) after my achilles tendon pain has plagued me for over a year. So my PT told me that if I wanted it to heal and not further injure it (I have achilles tendonitis) I needed to rest it.
So of course, my first thought was I would gain my weight back. Something I am NOT looking forward to. So she suggested swimming. After my PT appointment last Thursday I went straight to Sports Authority and picked up a swimsuit and goggles!! Went swimming Friday and Saturday and will go again, hopefully tomorrow.
Just wonderin' if there are any swimmers out there. I used to hold my running self in high regard because none of my friends here in HI are runners. LOL. Hopefully with continued PT, meds, rest and swimming I'll be back pounding the pavement sometime soon.

Sorry to hear that, especially since you enjoy it so much. I hope you are back to feeling 100% soon. I am sure that is very painful! You better listen to your PT!!!
Where are you going swimming? You have a wonderful pool at home don't you?

I admire you!! I can't swim a lick. However, my hubby just bought me a brand new treadmill and I have been trying to use it everyday.....I am not always as diligent as I should be though. *SIGH*

Sorry to hear you're injured and can't run JenJen. :( It's good you're a swimmer. I know the feeling. I had to give up competition long distance running when I was your age and went to PT for pool exercise, but not lap swimming. I am terrible at the Crawl. Actually, it's the breathing part of it without taking in water that holds me back. LOL! But I can do the back stroke, side stroke, and breast stroke. Good thing because I saved myself from drowning many times using these strokes! ha ha ha The therapists told me that I was not a strong enough swimmer, and would never be. I can't keep the speed or go the distance to burn calories to help with any weight loss, so I only did exercises to help with mobility and to keep flexible and to walk while weightless to keep pressure off my back. I had much improvement from this, but could never run again and had to accept walking. Is your injury something that will completely heal, or will you always have to watch it so it doesn't return? I hope you keep us posted on your swimming. :)

PS Ha ha ha I love how you said, "any HUMAN swimmers out there?" That tipped Roman and Elle off not to reply. :w00t:
