Hello everyone.

Gizmo actually goes in tomorrow to the vet to get neutered. He will also be getting an extra incision to the side because one of his testicles hasn't dropped yet. Its stuck up there:( From what I've read through the forums, I think its safe to say that all the chi's recovered just fine, right?

But yes, back to my original topic...

My Gizmo doesn't bark! He sorta barks meanly once in a blue moon, when his meal is threatened, but other than that, he doesn't bark. He is now 7 months old. When the doorbell rings or anything, he just kind of makes this quick sneezing sound. Like how cats sound when they sneeze.
My other dog, Lucky, on the otherhand, barks excessively. Do you guys think that Gizmo doesn't feel the need to bark because Lucky barks too much?
Usually, Lucky does the barking, and Gizmo does the charging and investigating.

Mind you, I'm not complaining that Gizmo doesn't bark. But I find it very odd. Chi's and other smaller breed dogs are quite notorious for barking.

Thanks in advance for any inputs that's coming my way!:flower:

I'll let everyone know how Gizmo does after his neutering. He's going to do an overnighter at the vet though.

I spent half an hour packing his luggage tonight. He gets diarrhea when he drinks normal tap water. So he's getting 2 bottles of evian :) Had to also pack some chicken baby food for backup, since I know he won't be eating the yucky vet wet food. His favorite toy, Mr. Sheep(also his favorite humping buddy!), a blanket with my smell on it, and of course, his soft, plush bed to go so he won't have to sleep on the cold steel cage at the vet.
Oh, and a small zip-lock bag so the vet can give me any puppy teeth she will extract. So far, I've managed to find and keep 6 puppy teeth of his:headbang:

Ok..off I go. Thanks again everyone.

Hi Christy and Gizmo, welcome to Club Chihuahua. That's so nice you packed all the comforts of home for Gizmo while he's at the veterinarians for his operation.

As for barking, before we got the Chihuahuas, I had always heard most say that small dogs, like Chihuahuas, were all yappy. But when I got Roman and Elle, I found this wasn't true at all. When Roman was a puppy, he barked at other dogs in campgrounds, but really stopped this on the most part, other than a couple friendly hello barks, then stops on his own or if told to quiet. And Elle rarely barks other than while playing with Roman and Sheba, if someone's at the door, sees a kitty out the window, or if we get her going. Elle sounds the most like Gizmo, because if she goes into the laundry room and gets the door closed, she won't bark so I can know to come get her. She either sits there and waits or whines a little. I've taught them both to speak and whisper, so they do know how to bark, although Elle prefers to "whisper". LOL

Let us know how little Gizmo's doing when he comes home. :) And again, welcome. Barb

The vet just called now. Its 7pm, my time. He had to have 6 teeth extracted, which she saved for me. Micro-chip, tattoo, and an extra incision for his stubborn testicle that didn't come down.
He's doing fine she said, but we'll see when I pick him up tomorrow at noon.
I was hoping for the stiches that don't have to be taken out later, but instead, he'll have to go in about 10 days to get them taken out :(

My other dog didn't have to..he got the dissolvable stiches.. I think that's what its called:confused:

I'll keep everyone posted tomorrow...

Sigh....what an ordeal!

Hi
How are you holding up mom? It's so hard when they're at the vet isn't it.
Sounds like everything went well though.
Casey only barks when someone comes to the door or when we yell out 'Hi'.
Funny enough, the doorbell at 'Ugly Betty''s house triggers her urge to bark!
I think Chi's have a bad reputation for being yappy, in my house it's exactly the opposite.

Wow.. poor Gizmo went thru the ringer didn't he? Please give him a puppy hug for us for a speedy recovery.
Hummie isn't much of a barker either, every once in a while.. Although his big brother, Hercules barks non stop when people come to the door or when he thinks he hears something. He's my security guard.

Update on Gizmo:

Well, just as I expected, my poor Gizmo has not eaten anything since Monday night, the night before his surgery. Besides the iv he was hooked up to until last night, he didn't drink any water either.
When he got home, I washed his face with a wet towel and changed his sweater since his sweater was soiled with his urine. Gross! The cone around his head will have to stay on for 10 days. Thats when we go to the vet to have his stiches removed.
I had to hand feed him some wet food, and he ate like a dog that's been starved for several days. I brought a small bowl of water to his face, and he also drank like crazy. Then I took his out to his favorite lamp post where he did his usual 360 degree pee party.
He's now sleeping comfortably in front of the heater in his comfy bed. Poor dog. I think he lost a pound! Oh well, Gizmo is now at least on the road to recovery.

A big thanks to everyone and their support:flower:

Cannella barks always: when someone arrives at home, when she is in my arms and we meet people, when we are out, she barks at chikdren, at grown ups at other dogs. Polpetta is a middle barker, and Cacao is very quite she never barks.

Some pics after Gizmo's ordeal:cry:

He's doing better now, but he still gives me a sad look because he really wants his cone off. My husband calls his cone a "lamp shade"!! Funny, but mean.

He's busy chewing his chicken jerky dried treat:

Awww, poor little cone head boy. I love his little blue bed. Those are big stitches for such a little guy. I bet that jerky treat is going a long way to cheer Gizmo up. Soon it will be my Happy's turn to get neutered and wear the cone.:(

My puppy Teddy is almost 7 months. When I first got him he didnt bark and he was scared of sudden movements and he was scared of my boyfriend. Since I've gotten him around more people and heard more things, he's done a lot better. I just started asking him when someone knocked on the door, who was there, and when he heard stuff just asking what it is, and it worked really well. Maybe if you did that your puppy would start to bark a little more? Hope it works for you too!

Hey,
Glad to know that Gizmo is doing much better. Thanks for a heads up on what I get to go through on the 9th of May..that is when my tito gets fixed. Oh me goodness he is so cute and I can tell Mum is taking good care of him. Tito says bark bark...get better.
As far as the barking...Tito will be a year old at the end of the month and he never and when I say never...I mean never barks. All he does is whimper and whine when he gets stuck at the top of the stairs or when he is scared. I haven't pushed the issue with him barking as I love the fact that he doesn't bark. Don't know what to say...I kinda just thought that maybe he wasn't meant to bark.

Aww poor little thing. I love the lamp shade joke. I'm going to be thinking about that all day!
Glad he's on the mend.
