My little girl Caylie has become TERRIFIED of my boyfriend. She has always been shy to begin with, but it all started when he was opening a bottle of champagne and the cork popped accidentally. It wizzed by her head and next thing you know, we found her hiding behind the toilet. Since then he holds her and tries to play with her, even kept her for a week while I was out of town, but nothing works. She won't walk with him or anything. Just hides in her crate.

AND WORSE- when he picks her up, she poops a little she is so scared.

I am at a loss about what to do.. he loves her and is so sweet to her. This is like, the guy I'm going marry, so she is going to have to get used to it. I just have no clue what to do....HELP chi friends HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is terrible.... I feel for you. I don't know what advice to give especially since they had a week of alone time and that didn't help. But I am looking forward to everyones opinions and suggestions.

Lovemygirls,
I would suggest that your boyfriend not give up.. not for him to force his kindness on him, but slowly earn her trust. Maybe when she's sitting with you he could offer her a favorite treat or toy. Pet her gently and approach her only when you are around and she seems a bit more relaxed.
Good luck.

I agree with Renata. He should offer her treats when you are there and pet her while you hold her. One neighbor gained my girl's trust this way, by offering steak and dog biscuits.

My Sammi Girl is afraid of one of my girlfriends and poops on the floor when she comes to my house. It took me a long time to figure out why she would be scared sh**less of my friend who is a real dog lover.

First I thought it was because this girl has a loud laugh and a loud voice. But then I remembered that this girl came to my house on separate occasions to take some furniture I did not need. There was much banging and yelling and going in and out and tromping up and down my stairs to get the furniture out. I had put Sammi Girl in her crate but she was still scared. So when she sees my friend she poops.

Hi Lovemygirls, I also would say for him not to give up. It sounds like she's running on recorded memory of the cork popping sounds. Sheba used to react to fireworks every year and remember which beaches, parks and store parking lots she heard them in and flip out over and over for almost a year when we would return to those places, and then only to have it happen again, year after year. But she would get better eventually. Hopefully soon, Caylye will forget and won't associate it with your boyfriend any longer. Please let us know if any changes take place.

Thanks guys... I appreciate the advice.. I haven't tried him petting her while she is on my lap.. that might work over time. He gives her treats and stuff now, or at least tries too, she won't take treats from him much, even STEAK!
