View Full Version : hi
Hi
I dont know how busy this forum usually is but I love my Chihuahua so here I am. My name is David, I have been either Dad or uncle to 17 Chihuahuas in my 29 years. I have helped loads of people adopt chihuahuas. I can not say enough about these little turkeys and would like to hear others stories.
Chi is a fast little sucker. He is by far the fastest Chihuahua I have owned. He of course owns the planet and thinks he can take anything on. He would sacrifice his life to protect me so I have to be very careful to never put him in a situation where he felt that was necessary (sound familiar?). His best friend is a cat named Mufasa. Its really his cat as he raised him. Mufasa tries to teach Chi how to climb his 7 foot post, Chi tries very hard to accomplish this feat-but can not make it past the 3 foot shelf. The other dogs in the neighborhood get out of his way when he comes barreling through the yards. He scared me pretty good once as he chased down (he poped his collar) a german shepherd. Good thing the shep was young (still way to big for my nerves with my 7 pound baby running at him) and thought tiny satan was after him. Yeah Chi strutted back to me after that one.
In any case I could go on and on but this is probably the same stories you yourselves witness from your little monsters. I hope to meet some cool people here with the same love for their Chihuahuas that I have for mine. As he is very protective of me, I would probably end up in jail if someone hurt Chisterman. His full name by the way, is Count Chi the Stir Man of Brizendein.

Hi David! Nice to meet you and the Chisterman!
I'm JenJen owned by one chi/toy foxie, chi, SBT and a lab mix. We come to you from beautiful Hawai'i! :D
I'm sure a lot of us can attest to the way chis are and their "little dog complex". LOL.
Thanks for sharing a little about yourself! Welcome to the boards!!
Oh yeah! We'd love to see some pix of your little one if you have any available.

Hi and welcome to Club Chi, David and Count Chi the Stir Man of Brizendein. .. Oh yes, we all love to talk about our Chihuahuas and other furbabys daily lives. We also enjoy pictures.
Chi sounds like a fun loving Chihuahua, full of life like our Roman and Elle. Like Chi, Roman chased an over 80 pound puppy home and had that pup running scared, trying to look at Roman to see what he was. Roman didn't let up until the dog was back in his own yard. What happened was, the neighbor came over, brought his dog and left our gate open. Roman flipped out when he saw the dog on our porch and pushed passed my foot and flung open the door. The neighbor was of no help, as he was too busy bent over laughing at little Roman was chasing his big dog, and me following down the street screaming for Roman to stop. Roman had never been loose while out before, or with a big dog, so I wasn't sure if he would come back or not, or if the dog would get annoyed and turn on him. Luckily, even in bare feet, I lasted longer than Roman. It's hilarious now to think about it how it must have looked, but it wasn't at the time, and Roman was shaking hard and upset as I carried him home. We now have baby gates and have put an opened up gorilla tough exercise pen on the porch--works great! Like you, we were lucky the big dog was a puppy.
That's a lot of Chihuahuas you have placed in homes. :D I have only seen a few for adoption in our area over the past couple of years. I hope to hear more about Chi and his climbing kitty friend.

Hi David
I am Debra and my baby is Nala. I only have one chi, but after being on this site for the little time I have - I really think I need another one. I just signed up not too long ago myself and love it. You will really enjoy this forum....everyone is great!

Barb
:D The 17 I was referring to are chihuahuas in my family and extended local family.
I dont know how many I have helped with adoptions. If you check out the Texas adoption and rescue sites, its sad to see how many babies dont have homes. I know that when the Taco Bell commercials were so popular alot of people bought chihuahuas, not knowing how needy they are. A lot of peeps just got rid of them. Sad. When Chi was a baby, I didnt ever want him alone so I brought him to work with me for about 6 months. I work in a 997,000 sq ft building so there were loads of people seeing him everyday. Then everyone wanted one. I had long talks with people before, letting them know the time and care that has to go into one of these babies.
I got such a great deal on Chi. I was trying to find a chi that was related to one I had that had recently passed. I called a lady who is the head of one of the clubs trying to chase down the bloodline records and she encouraged me to come look at her dogs. They were 800+ dollar chihuahuas and I didnt want to go that route =-). Besides if I didnt find a dog with the specific lineage I was looking for I wanted to adopt. She asked me to (we had had a long discussion about my history with the animals) please look anyways and that I may be surprised.
Usually I am so good at telling people NO. That is one of my strengths in life. Hell, when people I know need to tell someone no and are having a hard time with it, I usually get a call. I'm an engineer-its in my nature to tell people to get lost.
Anyways, I somehow felt weak (probably due to the feeling of kinship you get with people in the Chihuahua family) and agreed to go see her. When I walked in I was immediately impressed with the clean, beautiful lodgings her dogs had. Better than about half the people I know. The first dog in the room was the one in my avatar. That pic was taken next to some bananas the first day I had the stinker. He was all kinds of freakin out trying to get to me. She sat me down and we talked about chihuahuas (knowing full well that I had just been suckered because there was no way in heaven, hell or earth I was leaving without that dog). Then she surprised me. She wanted to give me Chi! I was obviously skeptical (go engineers!) until she explained that he had a condition called Cherry eye. She went through the yada yada that she cant sell him to her normal clients etc....(his grandfather supposedly was some grand-poopah showdog, but with how spunky and crazy Chi is I have my doubts lol) Well i dont care about Cherry eye so I take him home (I insisted I pay her for shots, $50). The vet informed me that he did have Cherry eye and gave me instructions on how to deal. I never saw it again. Last time I was at the vet he said there was no way this dog ever had Cherry eye. lol go Chi. Awesome dog for 50 bucks.
Hi Debra, Renata, Barb and JenJen. Thanks for the responses and Debra what a great looking Chihuahua!
Heres a pic (dont mind me, it was a rough day)
Welcome! I hope my Yoshi grows up to be as handsome as Chi :)
I'm Kelly (zomg..4 days till I'm 30) and I have a 14wk old little boy Yoshi. We live in Las Vegas. (I see you mentioned Texas...I was raised in Texas - left at 17 but I still have a lot of family there.)
Reading everyone's multiple pet stories makes me want to get a cat or another doggy :)

David, thanks for giving us a little info on how you got Chi!
It's sad when living things become a "fad" and die out just like every other trend that comes and goes. It lives and shouldn't be so disposable. :( Sad stuff right there!
Thanks for the pixy of you both! It's nice knowing what "online" people look like. LOL.

Hi David and Chi!
WELCOME!
My name is Dawn and I only have one chi, his name is Paco and he is a long-haired chi. He'll be 3 years old in January. He is my first dog and I LOVE him so much! I can't imagine my life without him. If he could talk and asked me to marry him, I would in a heart beat! lol.
I love that you are a guy and are coming on here praising your chihuahua! Most men hate little chihuahua's, that is until they have one, then they fall madly in love. I can relate so much to your chi thinking that he has to constantly protet you. My Paco, is so protective, he would do anything for me and it is the sweetest thing ever, but he could really hurt someone with his little teeth. Paco has 3 best friends and they are all kitties also. Mufasa is a great name! :)
You'll love it here, it Rocks!:headbang:
Dawn- yes I tell people that want a chi that they will sacrifice their lives to protect their person, so they have to be very careful as to never put their chihuahuas in the position where they feel they have to.
My friends have always made fun of my love of chihuahuas. Not that I care, I taught most of them how to take care of themselves growing up, what are they gonna say? =-) (they also know that it hurts when you make a chihuahua too mad)
I love their human like personalities too. When Chi was little we were playing and I was in his face biting him on the neck and he got me on the nose. Of course when I pulled away it sliced me open pretty deeply. It hurt but what amazed me was the concern he had for me. The rest of the day he was constantly licking me and being a little suck up. lol. I still have a light 3/4 inch long scar but it is a good memory mark.

Oh my gosh, you are so great David! Welcome to CC to you and Chi! Hahaha, thanks for sharing your stories, I feel like I already know you ;)
Good for you for helping rescue so many Chihuahuas!
I'm Alyssa, and have a Chihuahua Herd-not kidding! We had one about five years ago (Heuser, like Anheuser-Busch) who we showed till he became a Champion, then two (Tally) about three years ago who we showed but is a princess and finally got her silly humans to realize she just was not into showing so retired with half of her points to become a Champion), then three about a year ago (RedFred) who is currently showing and has some points toward his Championship, then five (Jessie & Dani) about half a year ago to start our very own showdog bloodline, and then, well, then about 7 weeks ago our whole world turned upsided down and we now have a nice even "lot" of 14!!! HOLY CHIHUAHUAS!!! We are having a blast and they are growing so fast! Sorting out homes, future show prospects, etc. but I still think I might be able to convince my fiance (who is also an engineer) to keep them all ;) Poor guy never saw it coming, hehehe!
Alyssa
PS-Might I ask what bloodlines you were looking for? I'm always eager to learn about different dogs!

Hi David. Welcome to Club Chi. I live on Long Island in NY with one chihuahua Sammi Girl who is 6 years old. I will soon have another chihuahua baby who I am happy to say will be one of Alyssa's new boy pups. Just to catch you up on a Club Chi thread: Alyssa is flying to my home with the puppy in February so that she and I can meet each other for the first time and go to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in Madison Square Garden in NY City.
Chi is very good looking and it is wonderful to hear how you got him. He is a lucky boy to have you. Do you still take him to work with you?
We are lucky to have you here on Club Chi with all your chihuahua experience. Also if I am ever having trouble saying no I will take some pointers from you. But seriously, I am 54 and one thing I have learned by now is how to say no and only do what I like to do. :flower:

David,
Thanks for filling us in on you and Chi.. which happens to be a very good looking little boy! I love hearing how a grown man loves his little dog. I know whenever I see my husband snuggling with one of our babies it just warms my heart..it's a precious sight . Glad you found us here on CC.. Hope to hear more stories, see more pics and get to know you better.
Bless you for all the rescue work you've done with all the chihuahua's over the years.
Well, unfortunately I can not bring Chi to work anymore. LOL, as he got older, well, he turned into a real chihuahua! =-) Hes a little too protective to bring around a bunch of people now. Too bad but all part of the game with these little boogers.
Bloodlines-I was just trying to find a pup that maybe was related to one I had lost. I knew it was probably impossible but that was a major loss in my life and I had my dillusions.
Yall are so friendly here! Thanks for all the nice words! I will try and get some good pics in soon, Im terrible about taking pictures!
PS: Sammy girl is an excellent looking animal!
PSS: Thats so cool you guys are meeting up and going to a dog show. Wouldnt the TSA consider a chihuahua a deadly weapon? ;-)

Thanks for the compliments about Mr. Brownie! I always tell him that if he wants to feign a broken front leg and collect spare change in a tin cup, he can't keep switchin' paws while he's panhandling!
He and Cookie have been keeping me well entertained tonight. I have snuggled with them and received some heartwarming kisses on my nose and lips from both of them. They fight over who's going to lean in and slurp my face...it's sloppy and kinda gross, but I'm not complaining!!!!

It's funny to read about these stories, b/c as David said, some of them are so similar (like being bitten on/IN the nose, etc. Jack also once chased two German shepherd adult dogs off our property, biting them on the butts, while they ran in fear (two days in a row!). You better believe I freaked out when my dad told me about that in an email while I was in France! Crazy little brave things!
There are so many stories I would tell. He dances on his hind legs like a circus bear font and back, side to side, in a circle, etc. He just stays up there forever! Sometimes he'll take the food he was begging for, eat it mid-dance, and continue to pump his long front legs and balance on his hind legs.

Heidi,
Glad you are here and thanks for the pics with Jack and Chi. LOL, I see you posted the sausage tail, Mauhahahahaha. I call Jack the "sheepdog" chihuahua. It makes DI so mad, but thats my job. :-P
BTW, yes its funny how traits carry so strongly in these dogs. Jack, Chi and Puddin have all 3 chased off and scared the living poop out of german shepards. Our father was bitten in the nose when he was pretending to be a monster and get me when I was in a crib. That biters name was "ChiChi"-yep Chi was named for ChiChi. Then Chi got my nose like 27 years later.
Heidi and I are lucky that we have so many awesome Chihuahuas in our past.
Hobbes, ChiChi, Peanut, Baby, Puddin, Missy (AKA Meepy), Sugarbear, Whisky, Chip, Jack, Chi, Gidget, Gigi, Bub, LittleFoot, Tricky, and Kirby (The alltime Alpha) Heidi are there more?

He gets called a cow, bandit, sheepdog (he heards the others, pretty amusing-and I may act like I care but it's just his personality :), circus bear, chan (David likes this one). Jack and Chi play everytime Dave and I are together (b/c of course wherever we are, they are. Unless we're jumping out of planes I suppose).
I have been away because I got a new baby! (and typing this with one hand right now because she is asleep in the crook of my arm) She has had a rough startfrom one shelter to another (the second one rescued her) but she's doing great. She is having some skin issues because of all the fleas she had before they saved her 3 weeks ago and is healing from that. The vet said she is between 10-12 weeks old, and she is just a doll! So sweet and needs to always be in your lap or very nearby or she howls. Forgive me if the picture turns out bigger than I planned!
