I'm gonna go on 3-4 pounds. Britney actually is overweight, a lil though. I'd say she needs to lose about a pound, maybe a pound and a half

Both of your babies are sooo cute though!!

Hehehe! Yep yep Alana's half fox terrier. And she says thank you to her aunty Crystal! She hates it when I tell her she's got a big tummy! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/traurig/sad-smiley-047.gif The last time she was at the vet which was a couple of months ago, she was 10.5 lbs. She says it's "all muscle!" http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/sport/sport-smiley-003.gif

Sammi, 8 lbs??? Girl are sure?! I'd say 6 pounds for her just like Alana!!
Well Lucius is overweight AGAIN!!!! (new food, have to go back to other again  ). He wieghed in at 5.6 pounds the other day at the vet but is supposed to be around 4.2! Kishi is 5.6lbs...perfect!!! I would even say she is a little on the skinny side but she will gain more as she gets older and slower I think!

Yup, Crystal, Sammi is about 8lbs. She has absolutely no fat on her she is just bigger than a real AKC chi would be. And Gracie has a little fat but she actually weighs less than she did last year. They are going to the vet for their checkups next week. I'll get accurate weights then.
I love them just the way they are. :D

Silly girl! If Britney only weighs 3-4 pounds, then loosing a whole pound or a pound and a half would make her loose over 1/4 her body weight-and I'm sure she's not that overweight! You'd be amazed at what just a few ounces gained or lost looks like on these guys-I've had to keep close watch on Heuser's weight since he is on the thin side and just 4 ounces makes a HUGE difference on his little frame! I'm interested to see what her actual weight is-is there any way you can get it?

Crystal, Britney sounds like she is just the right weight. She is a stunner. I wouldn't change a thing about her.
Thank goodness for KOKOMO. Gracie and Sammi were feelin' a little shy without some other big chis here.

I don't know, I still have a hard time seeing her as 1-2 pounds overweight...Heuser is too skinny at 3 lbs., 2 oz. but starts looking a little round at 3 lbs., 9 oz. so on these small chis their apperance can vary greatly with just a few ounces.

Bevandcasey
I think you mean that she is "well let-down" in the the chest (thats a good thing) and that she has both breadth and width to it? Chis are supposed to have a deep, barrel shaped chest/ribcage similar to an English Bulldogs (just not as extreme). Is that it?

Hugette weighs about 8.5 pounds. She isn't fat....and she still looks tiny to me.

Daisy is 5.6 lbs (after taking her in for surgery yesterday) and Zoe is an even 3 lbs...the vet says daisy is a little chubby, any suggestions on losing weight? She already eats so little, it seems...anyone heard of a green bean diet?

I think Alicia tried that with her two boys...From what I understand, green beans are great fillers to mix with food-low calorie and fill up the pupper's little tummies.
Also, exercise is great for Chis and after building them up slowly each spring, Heuser walks between 1-2 miles a day weather permitting in the summer and fall...Tally will too now that we have her! (Its great for chimommies trying to loose some winter weight too, hehehe!!!)
There are all sorts of "diet" food out there that are lower in calorie, but make sure that you buy a good-quality food that still provides the proper nutrition even though lower in calorie; the typical "grocery-store" diet dog food is just filled with junk...If she is over 6 months, you can begin changing her diet from puppy to adult food since puppy is much higher in calories to help them grow...
Hope this helps!

It sound like they need to be broken to the lead...It is actually pretty easy to do and they catch on quickly...Also, a harness versus a collar can work more easily too. Either way, it is a good idea to make sure they are able to go on-leash in case of an emergancy and to allow them a safe way to explore their world.
Start by attaching a light-weight leash to their collars/harness and just follow them around without pulling on them for 10-15 minutes at a time once a day. After the 10 minutes, call them to you with a treat ready and then let go of the leash and leave it on (only when you can supervise to make sure they don't get caught or can choke) for about an hour, allowing them to drag it around as they play, sleep, or in the beginning, probaby just stand there-this teaches them that the leash in not going to go away, nor hurt them.
After they have gotten used to you following them around (being sure to do this one dog at a time), and have started coming to you for a treat after a few days, start taking little steps (make sure you stand completely up, not bent over the whole time) and encourage them forward with your voice-keep a constant pressure on the lead, but never get into a pulling war with them-it only teaches them that they can "win" when when they resist and you give up and let them off the leash.
Only take one or two steps, then bend over and offer them a treat, making sure that they have to follow you and take a few steps in order to reach it. Over a few days, start increasing your steps as they begin to understand the concept. As you work with them, make sure that you always end on a good note (like right after they take a step forward toward you) and within a few weeks, they should be willing to go forward on the lead and ready for their first walk!

Tracy,
Been a long time since we've seen pics of the puppies! Take some close up of the girls for us! Hercules still talks about what a 'looker' Daisy is!
OH no Mandi! Lu's weight is back up again? What kind of food do you have him on? And what food are you switching him to? How are his legs doing? Poory baby.
Lucius was on Science Diet w/d low allergenic (sp?), well he wasn't eating so much of that and we got his weight back down after getting off the prednizone. When we ran out I went to my vet to buy another bag and they gave me Science Diet w/d Ultra, they said that it was the same thing. I we tried it and I noticed after a while that Lucius ate it ALL and Kishi would hardly get any. HE LOVES IT which is a first, he is not a big eater anyway. So I asked the vet and she had them order the other kind again and we have to change him back AGAIN!
I feel so bad for him b/c I usually leave food out all the time with no problem, neither one of them overeats. Well now, I put a bowl full in the morning and by nighttime he is BEGGING for food like he is starving! I give him a few bites but he still begs! We haven't had to go through this one before so I can't wait to get that other food in.
His legs of course are effected by his weight so the doc is making sure that we get him back on track AGAIN!!!!
Casey weighs 4lbs. It seems like she has a big chest.

Bevandcasey
Bev, I know what you mean. Lucius has always had that 'big' chest and I was always worried about it b/c it just didn't look normal. The vets have all told me that it was normal though. I just figured that their bodies are so small yet they still have to have all the insides in there so it is bigger!!! LOL Kids version of thinking I guess!! :lmbo:
I had to bend over which made my big butt get in the air...and I found out Britney weighs like 3.8 lbs  She weighs 4 pounds basically!!
Crystal,
That sounds like ideal weight or maybe even under a little. Any smaller than that full grown I don't think is healthy. Alyssa is right about a few ounces making a HUGE difference though. When Lu gains just a few ounces I can tell drastically. You should be able to run your fingers down her side and feel her ribs without putting much pressure. I think that is the way to determine easily if your dog is overwight. But Britney seems perfectly fine to me. :)

Hi all,
Gracie and Sammi were just at the vet. Sammi got her annual shots and Gracie got her nails clipped. They both got weighed.
Sammi weighs exactly 8 lbs. with a hint of ribs showing.
Gracie weighs 8.5 lbs. That is a very good improvement for her. She was over 9 lbs. heading for 10 lbs. for awhile there. Gracie could probably stand to lose a little more... But I am very happy that with her current weight.
