(LOL Zoe with the kangaroos)Oh maybe in all thats been going on I forgot to post it - Stephan took Biff to Sydney for a dog show, and also to bring home our new little show girl chi Ariel. Some idiots brought along some dogs with Parvo to the show, its a terrible thing because there were so many puppies at the show and there were 2500+ dogs their every day over the 3 days of the show. Ariel became sick and it was confirmed she had parvo, she was so tiny and only just over 3 months old and she fought so hard but in the end the virus became too much and she passed away:cry2: . So many puppies have died so far and its so upsetting. Ariels breeder has lost 10 of her little ones, some friends have lost thier puppies also, and we have some friends that have sick puppies that are fighting for their lives. Its so sad.
We are in quarentine at home with our other babies. From now to the end of next week will be the period of time that parvo will show up in our babies so we are just waiting and hoping that everything is ok because I couldnt bear to have go through it again. Im sure we will be ok because they are all vaccinated. Our quarentine period will be for a few weeks and we are not allowed to attend dog shows for at least 7 weeks, thats fine by me because we need to have a break from it all to get over this and to just get away from it all, at the moment I feel like just chucking in the towel and giving up on the showing/breeding thing so a break is good to reasses everything.
Im writting a story here so I better stop there, please send positive thoughts to all the sick little ones out there.
Terri

This is soooo heartbreaking. I'm sorry for the loss of Ariel, and for your friends' losses also. It's a tragedy. :( :( :(
I can't imagine how emotionally draining this must have been (and still is!) for you and Stephan, and for your circle of friends. I hope all of your chihuahuas remain strong and unaffected by the Parvo exposure. Please post here often (as much as you can) to let me know that your "kids" are free of illness. I am praying for a healthy, safe outcome.
I appreciate you posting this explanation about the quarantine because I'm sure it isn't easy to talk about.
Did the person with the Parvo-infected dog(s) come forward? What will happen? Was that person aware of the illness he introduced these innocent dogs to, or was it totally an accident? I'm both horrified and saddened.
My prayers are with you.

Hi Terri, I'm so sorry you are having to go through this...it's sad. And I can't imagine how hard it is to wait for these results for a clean bill of health for your Chihuahuas. Terry and I are sending LOTS of positive thoughts your way. We're so sorry about your little Ariel. :( If you're up to it and have the time, please let us know if you hear how this person could have done this and most importantly, about the outcome of how Pasha, Busty, Biff and Nini are doing.

You must be so sad and worried. I always wondered about health concerns at dog shows especially those really large shows with hundreds of dogs. I am so sorry that you lost your little pup so early and I pray that your other 4 come through ok. Please let us know how it goes for all concerned.

Thanks everyone,
I had a great birthday, the bowling party went really well, we had a crowd of 14 friends and the boys ended up winning by about 200 points LOL I think us girls were too busy chatting and having fun and not paying enough attention to the game LOL.
Things are going ok here, last night one of the dogs vomited before we went to bed. We didnt see which dog it was and they were all standing around staring at it so we had no idea who it came from, anyway we were so worried because this is one of the first signs of parvo so Stephan and I couldnt sleep and kept getting up to check up on them. Im at home all day today and tomorrow so I can keep a good eye on them. Everything seems fine though and we are just waiting out the quarentine time, its a horrible wait and I think the longer we wait the more doubt we have in our minds - its starting to make us crazy LOL. They are all fully vacinated so im sure they will be fine but its still in the back of my mind constantly. There is only a few more days to go until we know if they have contracted the virus or not, we are counting down and I will let everyone know when that time is up and hopefully with good news.
A friends chi has just started to get sick yesterday, her chi is 18 months old and fully vaccinated. Its so scary for everyone involved. Apparently the vet said the parvo strain is extremely bad. Also someone said that there is a parvo cure in the US, I dont think that it could get through our customs though.
Did the person with the Parvo-infected dog(s) come forward? What will happen? Was that person aware of the illness he introduced these innocent dogs to, or was it totally an accident? It was no accident, it was complete irresponsible behaviour. These idiots had 2 dogs die during the week before the dog show and the vet confirmed it was parvo, they then had another 2 of their dogs become sick with parvo, they still brought these dogs to the show WTF ??? I cant believe this, who would be so stupid? Why would they, for a stupid ribbon ? Is it worth a ribbon? They have put so many dogs lives in serious danger. So many dogs have died as a result of their irresponsible behaviour. So much money has been lost - vet fees, cost of show dogs, time in loss of work to look after sick dogs, the list goes on and on. Also the grounds where the show was has to be treated and the grass ripped up. The people who brought the parvo to the show are being questioned by a tribunal and will probably be suspeneded for life from dog shows and stripped of their breeding rights. Some friends think they will probably end up moving to a different state, they dont want to move near me because if I see them I wont be able to hold back and they will cop and ear bashing.

Update: my chis are clear, they have no signs of parvo and the time period of contracting the virus is up - so its all good here :). The quarentine period is still in effect though so we are just waiting until thats all over so we can go camping with the chis.

Terri, That's so good to hear your Chis are clear--at least that worry for you and Stephen is over. Still, that's awful that all of this happened. I'll be happy for you when the quarentine is lifted and you all can go camping.

OMG!!! I can't believe this!!! I am SO glad that your four babies are okay Terri and I am SO, SO, SO sorry to hear about Ariel!!! What a terrible tragedy!!! I hope those people are suspended for life-but it won't bring all the babies back! In the United States as a precaution, people can't bring unentered dogs or puppies under 6 months to shows. Still, that doesn't prevent show dogs picking up the virus and carrying it back to hotel rooms, trailers, home, etc. Parvo is such a lethal and scary disease...
