Well I'm glad to say that finally after 2 years Mickey dog hasn't had any accidents in 2 months. We started giving him treats when we see him going to the washroom on his pee pads. Now he goes over to his pad then sneezes to make sure we see him so that we know he was a good boy and will get a treat.
He's no fool. Very smart little guy. I should of done this from the beginning.

Wow congrats! Chili and Chloe still like my rugs if I don't keep a close eye on them! I'll have to try the whole treat thing!

Yay for Mickey!! :headbang:
Chloe is doing really well on per piddy-pads, too - we were having a rough time for a while, but all of the sudden in the last month or so, she's been a little angel!!
The only problem is...Lucy the cat keeps going behind her and scrunching up the pads the minute Chloe soils them, trying to cover the "presents"!! (Even the ones we have in a frame/holder thingie!) I was thinking maybe we should try the doggie litter...since Chloe already mimics so many things that her big sister Lucy does, she may take to it...and Lucy would just be able to hop in and cover it up, so it wouldn't offend her "delicate kitty sensibilities"!!
Anyone use the doggie litter, or have experience with it? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

i use doggy litter i have a rather large pan and we put a small bag of dog litter in it and pick up the poop after they are done once a week i empty the entire thing of litter since i have 3 dogs that use it and then i put a fresh bag in i think the litter works better since the litter holds the scent unlike pads which are fresh each time

Thanks, Erin! I think we'll try it - I never did get the Pet-a-Potty that I was thinking about...Brian looked at me like I had three heads when I suggested we spend almost $200 on a patch of grass to keep inside...
looks like doggie litter is the next best thing!

I wish I had gone with doggie litter way back five years ago. The girls are pad trained and never go outside to do their business. Sometimes they pee off the pad and I need protection under the pad for my wood floors. I think it is too late to try to convert them to litter. Also Gracie will still eat poo poo once in awhile and I know she would eat the litter and get very sick.

We were stuck with the whole pad thing, and going potty outside wasn't working. So we resorted to crate training. For the first day or two, Abi did not go #2 outside, I was worried that she would get backed up. So we put her on the pad inside, and the poor girl went three times. I felt so bad, so I picked up her #2's and put it outside on the grass and showed her that's where I wanted her to go. She's been doing great in her crate, only one #1 accident since then. I'm so proud of her!

Ri,
I use the litter box and Hercules does a great job at it, but Hummie... tsk, tsk..won't use it and if he uses the pee pads I'm lucky!I usually set the pee pads slightly under the litter box, cause sometimes Hercules likes to hang his booty over the side and that way it goes on the pad and not the floor.
Congratulations Mickey!!
Stella is litter-box trained also. All of our Chi's went inside as we get very short summers and very cold winters here.

I want to give mickey treats for when he goes potty on his pad. He is so little and I can't find treats small enough and on top of that he is really picky about what he eats. Any suggestions?

how about cheerios? Dogs love cheerios and they are healthier than most doggie treats anyways.... just a thought.....
