Has anyone hit $3.00 a gallon for gasoline yet? We just hit $3.09 a gallon today! We're highest in the entire Country (US). It was $2.79 just yesterday...should have filled up. LOL

What is it where you live?

$3.00. Are you kidding me!!! WOWEE. I knew gas was more there but I didn't know by THAT much more. In Alberta, it is around $0.90 CAD. I'm shocked.

Oh, but then and then, you're talking about gallons. We use litres.

I'm not sure what liters are to gallons. It's terrible here, and our delivery services for foods and goods have sky rocketed as well. If food or a dry goods was $12.99, now it is $18.99! We're half way between San Francisco and Portland OR, 8 hrs. each way, so although we are not in the "boonies" or off the beaten path, we are with gas! haha Here's the article and hopefully will stop for everyone soon:

$3 a gallon!
By Ann Johnson The Times-Standard

Thursday, April 07, 2005 -

ARCATA -- Despite national reports of increased crude supply and refining activity, Humboldt County is waking up to some of the highest gas prices in the country, topping off at $3.09 a gallon for supreme.

According to California Energy Commission spokesman Rob Schlichting, gas prices are averaging $2.51 in Northern California and $2.22 nationwide.

Schlichting said that on average California consumers pay an 11 cent markup for fuel over the "rack price" -- what distributors pay at the fueling terminal before taxes.

On Monday, Schlichting said, Northern California rack prices were $1.98. Distributors then pay approximately 52 cents a gallon in taxes, plus their markup. When adding the current state averages, taxes and markup, the total comes to more than the state average, but Schlichting said that this would be a time when gas stations generally make smaller markups.

For some reason, "Northern California averages" rarely reflect what Humboldt County consumers are paying. One industry expert familiar with the local gas scene who requested anonymity said Chevron Terminal rack prices in Eureka on Wednesday were $2.14 per gallon. Higher local rack prices appear to reflect the fuel transportation costs to the North Coast. With average regular unleaded prices in Arcata at $2.89, that leaves a 23 cent markup. The same source said that local stations probably charge more than in metropolitan areas because the daily volume and resulting profits are far less, but overhead costs run about the same.

Humboldt County 5th District Supervisor Jill Geist said she has had it with the gas prices here. Geist is calling for an investigation of where along the distribution line prices are changing.

"What the hell is going on here? This is absolutely outrageous. Man, and both my tanks are empty," she said.

Geist predicted that soon area residents are going to see that the effects of the skyrocketing fuel prices are far reaching.

"You know I'd love to be able to go out and spend $40,000 to get a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle that would be able to pull my horse trailer, but with the way gas prices are right now I really can't afford it," she said.

Sean Comey, spokesman for the American Automobile Association, said that many consumers may be able to avoid mid- and high-grade fuels.

"Check your owner's manual, very few cars are recommended to use the other fuels," Comey said. "Only specialized high-performance engines even need the stuff. Every time you fill up your tank with high-grade gas you might as well write a check straight to the fat-cat oil companies."

Schlichting agreed and suggested that some of the practically overnight price hikes may be due to the recent forecast of gas prices reaching the $3-a-gallon point by summer. "It's sort of like the government giving permission to charge that much," he said.

One main reason for national increases this year is that Alaskan North Slope crude oil has jumped from $35.39 a barrel to $54.14 a barrel.

All hope is not lost, though. Schlichting said that if consumers shop around for the cheapest price they can force gas prices back down.

"Merchants won't lower prices unless they have to and if they find that customers aren't going to them, they will respond," Schlichting said. "In a sense it is like voting with your dollar."

North Coast gas consumers can take some solace in shared misery with drivers in at least one other part of the state: High-test gas in South Lake Tahoe was reported at $3.17 a gallon Wednesday.

Zoe, Your smilies are perfect for the "gas" problem, LOL, and the car is too much! LOL And I'm now wishing we had Bonus and Shebe, our horses like yours here. haha We do have my father's 1 cyl. Brush, 1st Cadillac, that may come in handy. Or his small 1956 Metropolitan is nice and small. haha

Ohhhh! Homer! LOL LOL

Where'd you get a pic of me on my witch broom? hehe

Holy Cow Barb!! That's a lot!! Finally we're not top in gas prices!!! CA beat us out by about 7 cents. Not too sure how much longer that'll last. Since we're always pulling out ahead of everyone else. I just recently saw the gas go up to $2.40. And that's on the cheaper end of the expensive end, if that makes any sense. But on the outer islands it's ridiculous, bout $2.70+
Zoe, you've got a great idea, a horse! Maybe I should invest in one! LOL. j/k ;)

We use litres here too, and we call it petrol, things are so different on the other side of the planet LOL
The cost of petrol here is $1.10 per litre
1 gallon is 4.55litres, so thats $5.00 australian for 1 gallon, thats $6.50 US !!!
OMG $6.50:shock: , thats crazy!

No wonder people here are complaining, I dont mind too much because I have a car that uses hardly any petrol. We are planning on trading in our little car for a station wagon so we can travel with the dogs to country dog shows or go camping and sleep in the car. I bet the petrol would cost a stack more with a station wagon.

HOLY COW THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!! $6.50 A GALLON!!! OUCH!

We live the "cheap" part of the US-the Midwest-and our gas is "only" $2.25-$2.40 depeding on the day, etc. We have stopped making as many short trips and errands and try to combine them all into one day and route. But traveling to dog shows is expensive and there are many people that have had to stop because they can't affordt to fill up their campers and motorhomes! It is really sad that people can't participate in the hobbies because gas prices are so crazy...

$2.14 today here in Virginia Beach.

My wedding is in three weeks, and Brian's Uncle is giving us Hawaiian Orchids as our gift. (He's a floral designer to the Rich and Famous in Houston, so he's having the orchids flown in from Hawaii, then driving out here from Texas...he's doing all my centerpieces - big, elaborate things in tall slender vases with Orchids, Curly Willow, Bear Grass and Bells of Ireland.) I'm really hoping that these ridiculous gas prices won't end up doubling or tripling the cost of everything for him, or making it impossible for him to do it! (Can you imagine what my FLORIST would charge me for last minute centerpieces?!?! ESPECIALLY since Uncle John has cut him out, and all he's doing now is the bouquets, boutinniers and corsages! OUCH!!)

Gas cost me 2.25 a gallon this week here on Long Island, NY.

What is the lowest price for gas that you all remember? When I had my first car in 1970 (an original Volkswagon Beetle) gas cost .35 cents. I could fill the tank for $3.50.

Here is an unrelated website, where you can see which historical figures and actors are the same height as you. I chuckled to myself when I thought ...to link it with the above posts about fuel prices, that it only lists the gassy celebs. Hehe!

That's funny. I'm 5'10" so I guess I'm taller than most. I was surprised how tall Leonardo DeCaprio is, I thought he was shorter for some reason. And George Clooney is 5"10"? I would have guessed he was taller....

Peanut's Mom, That's quite a bit too! It's gone up 20 cents more here as well.

The small city that I posted this article from is also leading in fuel cell cars in the USA. Good thing too, with our prices, but it looks like a car only big enough for Chihahuas!

http://www.humboldt.edu/~humboldt/tpoints/fuelcell.html

Terri, Wow! $6.00/gal. I've heard it's $8.00/gal somewhere in the world, but I don't know where.

I got gas again today and it was still $2.25 per gallon. No change from 2 weeks ago. But I went to the grocery store this week and spent $80 on a small to medium shop, not a big get everything shop. That's a lot of money for odds and ends. I did treat myself to a steak that was on sale (6.00 total for a medium sized London Broil) but there were steaks there going for 12.99 per pound. I usually only eat chicken and I only get it on sale. Depending on the part of the chicken that usually runs 69 cents to 79 cents per pound. Steak is a once or twice a month treat besides that it is not the best thing to eat anymore healthwise.

I live in a cheap petrol state, other states of Australia pay a lot more for petrol than me. I heard that the US had the cheapest petrol prices in the world.
Im still hanging out for a solar powered car that will still work at night LOL.
