Hi Erin, I'm so sorry little Wiggles is sick. Roman went through this same thing. He was real sick, and his head was swollen. We rushed him to the vet like you did, and he was fine afterwards. You're such a good Chi mommy. We'll be waiting here for your update. Roman and Elle send Chi hugs to Wiggles.

Oh no! Not Romeo too. I'm so sorry you won't have them with you tonight, but it sounds like you have a good vet who will watch them carefully.
They will be in my prayers for a speedy recovey. Barb

Do you know exactly what shots they reacted too? Most shots are combinations and many toy breeds including Chihuahuas have problems with the Lepto portion. Be sure that you know EXACTLY what the problem was so that you can include it in their records and not repeat it again. Also, my vet gives the rabies shot on one side of the neck and then their distemper combination on the other so that any swelling that occurs is easily detected and drug that caused it easy to figure out.
There are many myths and new findings about the vaccinations and shot schedules and I suggest that you research the topic more in-depth as well as talk to your vet about it to make the best decision possible for your sweet puppies!

Erin,
I'm glad you sought medical attention right away, after Mr. Wiggles reacted. You're so mature and such a great role model for young adults about pet ownership. I hope Mr. W is back to his perky self! :)

mr wiggles and romeo were still a little sore from their 4 shots that they had to get including the rabies we checked on them once an hour during the night to make sure they were all right and when they got home we put them on the couch with their "bed time" blanket where they fell asleep until it was potty time they are back to their old selves agian

Oh Erin, I am so glad the boys are ok again. I missed this post yesterday. You did exactly the right thing rushing them back to the vet. Gracie is over 5 years old and she reacted to her shots last year. Our new vet is going to give her meds before she gets her next shots and not do them all at once. It was very frightening to see Gracie swell up. So I know how scared you were. You are a good chi Mommy.

Did they get one shot with 4 components plus a rabies? Or was it 5 components plus the rabies? Just trying to figure out what they might have reacted too...

If asked for advice, I would say that your mom needs to find out exactly what was given to the pups so that it doesn't happen again. I am guessing that they were given a combination vaccine and then a seperate rabies shot/booster. It is much more common for dogs to react to one of the combination shot components (specifically Leptospirosis) than the rabies and it can be left out in the future so that this doesn't happen again. There is a ton of information out on vaccinations and I encourage everyone to further educate themselves before simply allowing any/all shots to be given.

What did I miss? Did your mom cut one of the puppy's hair?
